I never said i was outraged...i said "seems a bit harsh".....in fact, im hardly bothered at all.
It was my dads car, not mine....so screw him!
Just thought i'd post it on here on his behalf in case there was a way out of it....he is more "old school" than me and prob has a lot in common with the views on here....from too much gov control to pop idol being crap TV.
I see no irony other than that he has never speeded in his life yet gets hit for £50 for stopping..........i like speed cameras yet when i get caught i managed to get off the hook!
Stick that i your irony pipe and smoke it with my dad!

You could do 2000 MPH on your own property, but you could still be procecuted for dangerous driving if the police felt like it under legislation brought in to take private land use into road traffic law. Remember the TV prog showing this : doubt the fine would stand up to court - the sign would need to be visible to the driver just as the speed limit signs are (ie big signs with no wording, just a recognisable symbol and/or number)
I'd write them a letter telling them to bugger off and if they want to take it further then they can see you in court.

The 5th Gear thing said basically ignore it. It would cost them more to recover the "fine" through the courts hence they don't bother. But you (actually, your dad) will get some strongly worded letters. Ignore, throw in bin.

i was there and the place was crawling with coppers through out the day
went out in reading last night on the drink
i think i was in the fez club?
double vodka and cokes all night made me slightly worse for wear

That was probably my post and while legal advice has indicated that the Bill of Rights states this and while a precedent was set in another case where it was decreed that the Bill of Rights must be explicity repealed in any Act which gives the power to impose fines to an authority other than a court there hasn't actually been a test case relating to parking. In saying that several organisations are trying to get such a test case to court. Now, the reason there hasn't been a test case is that every council that attempts have been made to get to go to court on the matter have, after a series of nasty letters, caved in and withdrawn their case.
So while I, and others with authority and experience on legal matters, believe that only a court can impose a parking fine this is a complex area and the situation is certainly not with simple precedent.
I am also not sure of the exact situation where tiggs was sitting on his daddy's knee working the steering wheel while his daddy worked the pedals while parking. Clearly this would be a new problem for the courts in that it could be asserted that two people were driving the vehicle. I am also not sure what the significance of tiggs being a minor and clearly having psychological problems requiring counselling will be.
