Subaru Flat Four Rumble - The Most Unique Sound in Motoring?
#31
I went on a Ferrari race day and drove a 360 Modena Spyder. My dad video'ed me accelerating from around 40 mph up to 130 mph. The sound was amazing. The Mpeg is only about 1.1mb in size but I have no way of posting it. Also it does have my dad's dodgy commentry on it.
If anyone can post it let me know and I will send it to you.

Morris Minors have a very distinctive farty noise when changing thru the gears.
Amercian V8s have individual sounds, the bigger the engine the more the ground shakes, especially at idle. Any supercharged V8 whines so much it can be heard for half a mile or so.
My kids run to the window when they hear a V8 to see which of my 'noisy mates' it is!

It must be a distinctive exhaust note as my folks dog recognises it. Since having the H&S system on mine everytime I arrive back at my parents the dog is already waiting at the front door by the time I get out of the car. Doesn't react to other noisey exhausts and there are a few about (is Essex afterall ), only scoobs

Can anyone with a website host a file for me?
I have a recording of the Ferrari technicians who managed to tune the F1 exhausts to play something distinct.
It may have been a "chop-job", but it is certainly discernable.
It's probably worth it just to hear them warm up the engines.
I'm sad.

They are distictive because:
A) There are loads of them
B) They ALL have a loud exhaust
C) The owners make sure we hear them
If all boxster ran around with decat loud exhausts we might well have the same discussion.

my old XR2 with a K&N sounded mint when using WOT. It just sounded like it was working so hard - not as good as my full de-cat scooby though. my RS turbo with magnex anf bailey dv was also beautiful, especially on WOT between 3-4k

if scoobies start sounding like any other car, why would anyone buy one instead of an evo? surely the noise is the one thing most people love about them/ miss about them when theyve sold it?
