Midmotr...
I find it extremely laughable that you cant read properly mate, if you look back you will see that i stated that a slightly tuned ctr would keep up with 300bhp cars. All it would need would be 50 brake more and due to the weight + transmission loss of the heavier cars the ctr would have a very good chance once on the move.

The ppp as you know is 243 bhp, they say the de cat with the vortex gives you about 18 bhp. But the last time i was at santa pod it ran a 13.9 and at trax at silverstone on the 0 60 sprint it did a 4.9.

Nice figures,

So the civic im guessing was 50bhp ish down on you but even then you still noticed the power toward the end of the rev range on the ctr.

DC
Im not disputing the fact that the merc is fast as like stated it blitzted me off the lights. I did close one hell of a gap on the AMG though and yes it was a long 90 degree corner, which was uphill.

You guys have even got me wondering now whether or not it was an E55 AMG.lol!! Im bloody sure it was though.

still laughable, the DASTEK car with induction, full exhaust inc performance manifold and mapped in house by dastek managed 240bhp so wheres the 50bhp from? a supercharger? hardly 'slight' tuning to get and extra 50bhp out of a normally aspirated. When people talk about 'slight' tuning that means maybe a filter and exhaust so 208bhp maybe.

I've seen an AMG 55 driver floor it at 70mph on the motorway. It didn't so much accelerate as rotate the earth to where it wanted to be. By the time I'd dropped a gear and spooled the turbo up, all that was left of the Merc was some rippled tarmac. When I grow up, I want an AMG

When crappydoo grows up he'd like a Corsa Merit, just like the one he'll take his test in.

I can't believe you actually said this -

Whether you guys like it or not the E55 was beaten by my little olde runabout R as after my overtake, he attempted the same on the duel carriageway and didnt get anywhere

this a funny thread!!!
with 245bhp in my 94 wrx i easily beat a CTR from second gear onwards. He gave up at the end of third so I didnt get to see how it would have done at higher speeds.
They are really nice cars but they just couldnt mix it with AMGs.
I ran a 14.4 quarter with 245bhp. now i have 261.
While I was at santa pod I saw a CTR who I think is an essex boy, usually down at lakeside racing, with the number plate that sorta reads KILLER. It has a supercharger and is bloody fast. He ran a 14 second quarter. dont know what power he has but obivously he wouldnt keep with 300bhp scoobs & evos who would be running low 13's???

Still, I'd take a CTR over my 94 wrx

You must be joking midmotorsteve if you think im gonna list them all I'll just say id dip into Jun, spoon, endless, apexi and for me/many others that would be classed as mild tuning. Not all power but focusing in on handling and brakes also so i would have a nice balenced car.

I've got to admit that Type Rs are quick. Away from the lights our standard bugeye WRX would muller a Type R (and has done), but 40-80 on a dual carriageway there really isn't that much difference.

We got beaten by an S55 AMG, can't think what an E55 AMG would be like.

ok so when you mean slight, slight is cams engine rebuilds, nitrous etc... ok in that case a 'slightly' modded WRX, GT4, COSSIE etc could easily have 400 - 500bhp?

I doubt the existance of more than a handfull of UK CTR's with 240bhp or over.

As i said examples with exhausts, headers, decat, induction & Piggyback ecus only manage 240bhp

As far as handling and brakes go what do they have to do with straight line speed. Personally my car has had double the money spend on suspension mods oppose engine mods, its a sensible thing to do.

so its right what they say, scoobynet is full of chavs

anyway, when mr scrappy bought his civic type r, i had my old evo 6 and it was standard, so we thought we would do a little comparison test - rolling start obviously cos 0 - 60 would be a forgone conclusion

anyway long story short, on a straight, dry road, after 80 or 90 mph there was very little in it, i did get past him (just about) as we came to a slight bend but this is just down to the extra power overcoming the **** aerodynamics - the 6th gear in the civic helps with top end we were 3 up in the car and saw 140 odd when it was still pulling if i remember correctly

a few of you have mentioned racing them but how many have done direct comparisons then?
i know this is about the civic vs some mercedes, but i think a lot of you (like i did) under estimate the civic, thats the only point im tryin to make! that and jon is a bit nuts behind the wheel sorry jon

oh and just to get into the spirit of things, MY CARS BETTER THAN YOURS guys including yours jon lol

Having just read this thread and finally stopped PMSL and dried my eyes, I'm ready to add my experiences.

CTR is a quick car and just this afternoon I had a play with one but due to traffic only managed one proper run, on (private) M'way from 60 ish, if he had moved over I could have passed, as it was we touched 140 before catching slower traffic! Got a good pebble dashing for my trouble!

Yes he was going for it, puffs of black smoke as he redlined it!

Now I'm quite pleased with this as my 05 WRX has only done 1500m and still very tight!

Also my previous car whooped several CTR's upto 100 thereafter being reeled in- Clio172!

Now I've been talking quick cars, however AMG don't make quick cars their only interested in blistering!

I think it may have been an sticker on a sprinter!

scrappydoo... It's just banter, mate. And you seem to have a sense of humour from your earlier posts. I reckon you're probably a very competent driver (more so than me ); -a bit irresponsible to be racing on the roads but hell, I'm not your Dad (though I'm knocking on a bit). The thread was started as an E55 AMG vs. Honda CTR in a more-or-less straight-line drag. The CTR is almost an exact match on paper for the standard bugeye WRX (0-100) How they get there is very different, though. And they have very similar top speeds.

The Merc is on another planet entirely, though, in terms of brute force.

And I love being an **** because you get to point out the humorous bits of situations and hopefully give everyone a laugh in the process.
