Now, now.... there's no need for name-calling.
I can't see any point in spending five times as much money on something that isn't as good as a ctr, can you?

Yes, I edited the laughs... I felt there were too many to carry on a good-natured debate afterwards...
30-70 through the gears in the Merc is 3.2 secs, compared with 6.0 in the CTR.
50-70 in top gear is 8.9 in the CTR but only 2.2 seconds in the Merc. But Autocar allow kickdown because it's an automatic, so it isn't really a fair test. I don't think the outcome would be much different...
As to the price... £16k for the Honda, £62k for the Merc. So only four times as much, I apologise.
I wonder if the Merc will lose 16k in its first year?

My neighbour ordered an E55 AMG
After waiting almost a year for it, and paying over 100k for the privilage, i can say its f*cking awesome and very very very very fast indeed
Classy as hell- but nice and stealthy too.

I cant believe we are having a conversation about a CTR keeping up with one. If my modded UK didn't keep up with an E55 by a long way, on full launch.... I have NEVER been taken by anything VTEC off the line. Not come across an NSX though
If you took him on bends then fair play, but that down to the driver at that point.
If he was trying you would have heard it big time. The noise is quite special when they do

Looks like i'd kick a amg's backside then in my sti 4!
Had a bit of fun with a civic type r a while back. The guy went flying past doing 90+. Caught him, passed him in no time at all.
Some how I dont believe that my sti wound keep up with a 400bhp+ AMG. Not that im upset or anything, my car cost me 15% of what a new AMG 55 costs!

lol - look at the times, there is NO way on earth you passed an e55 (if the driver put his foot down) - at any speed. remember, auto means no missed gear changes, so no blame there. the car is 50% quicker to 100mph and will then totally thrash a ctr thereafter. ctr is quick but the E55 resides in a totally different league.
the merc driver let you past.

CTR is pretty good in the VTEC zone. Thats it! You can't strip the car down further as it's already empty! Put a few people in it and it's rubbish! It has rubbish torque levels and overtaking must be a nightmare with a couple of ppl. Against an AMG you got no chance. I test drove a CTR and enjoyed it but decided to buy an 01 wrx (recently switched to 03 STI PPP for more fun!)
I would be soundly confident that if a CTR tried to pass me then I could keep him behind me. I wouldn't be confident with an AMG!

lol,
Ive raced many a car i thought would whip me and they havent. Recently raced an evo 7 in the wet and he couldnt get past me till 4th gear and he was flat on the limiter as you could hear it popping and spluttering away. Had my mates Evo 6 down the carriageway he finally overtook me when we got to a bend. Had many a scooby. The bugeye wrx's are easy to overtake in the higher gears and a classic import wrx stayed level with me right upto silly speeds then he gave up as my ctr was gaining slowly. The CTR's like i said are very under estimated and with abit of tuning will stay with 300bhp cars once rolling.

Don't get me wrong CTR's are quick cars but they will not keep up with the EVO's\Scoobies\AMGS. Either you are a superb driver and raced other marque drivers who havn'e really tried or your car is a one in a million special CTR.
Do you not find the car dramtically loses performance with a few people in due ti its low torque level?

Maybe the Merc driver fluffed a gearchange.... in an automatic
There's not really much driver skill needed in those things on the straight. Press the accelerator pedal then wave goodbye to the Civic that was alongside, I'm sure even your granny could manage that

A CTR wouldn't be far behind mine admittedly. I did however say behind!!!
During a Tek3 remap i had the pleasure of a straight drag with one from low speed well into 3 figures. I was 3 up and he was on his own and i pulled a half decent gap on him. That's how it happend - simple as.
I have also been up against an E55 AMG as well as an RS4. Which way either of them went, i just don't know - they were gone

LOL... I don't know why, but this thread reminds me of that Python scene from Life of Brian where Stan of the Judean People's Front wants to become a woman and have babies, but he can't as it is pointed out that he doesn't have a womb in which the foetus can gestate.
It is claimed that Stan's case is symbolic of the Judean People's struggle against the Roman oppressors, when, in fact it is symbolic of one man's refusal to face facts...

Goodness me its like play-school in here. Look guys, i really cant be bothered anymore, you lot are telling me that my little civic cannot keep up with evos/scoobies/amg's when it has. huh!! Maybe the AMG driver was full of poo, couldnt drive for sh*t... or just plain wasnt trying, who knows!!? the fact of the matter was he wanted to get away as was plain evident by the way he was driving but failed too.
I have owned a scooby and i also currently own an evo with over 300bhp. I am a competent driver and im telling you that the type r is not far off in turns of performance when pitted against evo 8-260's, classic scoobies, wrx bugeyes aswel as a few imports. I have raced them all and have pulled a lead or stayed behind them at a set distance consistantly. The CTR has alot of potential and you guys are more than welcome to come have a go in your standard classic scoobies or bugeyes, rolling start of coarse and i will show you your transmission loss due to the AWD.
Brun, Remap eh? Hardly fair was it? BTW its very easy to mess up the gears in the ctr due to the 6 speed close ratio box. Get it wrong and you may as well give it up.
Bubba
Please dont be such an ****, im sure you wouldnt say that to my face if i ever had the misfortune of meeting you I guess i was expecting more from somebody who likes the life of Brian.lol

scrappydoo ive race a CTR up the mighton RD in leamington spa, and ive got a slighty moded 00 classic with ppp de cat and a bailey dump valve, and to start with in the first two gears i was backing off then when the way was clear i went round and stuck my fingers up at the little pr*ck. Dont get me wrong it seamed it had power at the end of the rev range so with the right driver getting the revs it could give a sh*t scooby driver a run.

mate a friend of mine has a CTR, when i had my n/a MR2, it was only just quicker as expected having 25 bhp more, same torque & weighed 60kg less, we had many races he could slowly pull past me on a straight carrageway and i accepted that. Now I've got a turbo lump that when running on LOW boost runs 225bhp with 230lbs he doesn't even bother trying anymore so I find it extremely laughable that you claim a CTR is as fast as x,y,z other 300bhp+ car or does it have time travel capability too? LOL
small engine n/a cars simply lack the torque to be able to accelerate fast when already at speed.
If your on a very bendy road and your a driving god, when the other drivers mr average Joe then of course the CTR will be quicker, then an astra max van will also spank them.

I work for Mercedes and can tell you that the E55AMG is a seriously Quick car!! There is no way that a civic type R could get anywhere near close enough to catch him!! Must have been a really really tight corner with a set of temporary traffic lights in it that had just gone green??!!??
