Yep, funny how if a car goes over 60mph on an NSL single carriageway road it's deemed dangerous, but I've never seen anything attempting to catch an artic' speeding (But then again bikes also have it easy with those Truvellos ).
(What's even more amazing is how few people know what speed limits are for anything but a car ........)

Anyway, back on topic, I have great respect for the majoriy of lorry drivers - if you give them the space they need, I'm sure they really appreciate it. I'm always cautious on dual carriageways/motorways, so that I don't find myself sitting alongside a lorry for any length of time - either hold back behind, or get enough of the car in front so that it is visible.

However, i have come across some complete prats (almost run off the road type people) who seem to think that because they are so heavy they can block your right of way etc. I'm sure these people are in the minority, but it's funny how the bad experiences always stay in the mind.

I agree 100%. The number of cars you see squeezing into the gap infront of a lorry when you come to a roundabout or a junction is just ridiculous.

I used to know a bloke who drove a big arctic. He came back to his truck to find a bloke had parked right up to his front bumper. He walked down to the back of his trailer to check nothing was there. Gets in his cab reverses >smack<

Another car had parked right up his arris in the time it took him to walk back and start his engine.

Got a lot of respect for truckers.

Everybody should learn to drive in a truck - certainly brings home the importance of observation due to cocky car drivers sneaking around your blind spots

There are ways and means, but it is a permenant "fix", ask any Irish trucker

Our road safety record was, and indeed may well still be the best in Europe if not the World. The problem is that the year on year improvements we were seeing have stagnated, and indeed last year road deaths actually increased.

The government have tried to hide this by getting rid of road fatalities figures and lumping them in with seriously injured to give us the KSI figures. As far more are injured than killed, the injury figures (which have decreased, most likely due to safety improvement made by car manufacturers) mask the increasing death figures.

Its really impressive when they signal a right furn and pull out into your lane all at the same time just when you are overtaking them!

Thumbs up

Truckers are an excellent source of fun when stuck in big traffic queues on the motorway

Tailgating - their number one way to pass the time and eat up those monotonous hours on the motorway... Artery clogged, overweight chain smoking, bottle neck glasses wearing idiots sitting inches off cars in heavy traffic...
The number of them that use their 38 tonnes as a bullying tool is ludicrous - never that keen to get out and discuss their driving though more's the pity!!

There are like with cars, motorbikes, microlites and vans plenty of responsible normal human beings doing their utmost to be courteous and responsbile on the road, but I see enough hgv tailgating on my 70 daily motorway miles to make me cringe....

For quick EU comparison of accident statistics, look at the CARE database:

http://europa.eu.int/comm/transport/...e/index_en.htm

Note to DBW (if you're still here!) - you can search by vehicle type, as well.

Hmm, I've actually seen all three lanes blocked on occasion in an effort to even-out the traffic flow! Funny how the odd car driver will still try to find a way through and make up 3 spaces in the queue!
