Unhappy

Do the following...
  • Find out what the total UK turnover for Amway is per year.
  • Find out how many UK members/agents there are.
  • Divide one by the other (in the right order).

Determine whether you can survive on the number per agent obtained, or more importantly the profit available on the number obtained!

Don't forget that the upstreamers will earn more than you, so your cut will be reduced.

Swallow hard.

Brit_in_Japan summed it up nicely.

My 2p's worth:

IIRC, the initial blurb they give is that you can make loads by having 6 downlines who each have 3 downlines. However, every single one of them has to be shifting a fair amount of stuff as a distributor - not just customers who are simply buying the products.

I dipped my toe in the water of Amway around 15 years ago, just curious to see what the big secret was - I never believed the hyper sales flannel. I even went to an Amway conference. Very scary indeed. We sloped off early because it was like some happy clappy cult thing. I also very quickly realised that sales isn't for me, let alone the Amway method. We were told that even if you were waiting at a bus stop, you should try and recruit the poor blighter waiting with you.

I also tried a few of the cleaning products and thought they were not worth the premium over ordinary off the shelf products. Furthermore, convincing someone to not buy well known products from the supermarket when they do their weekly shop, and buy them from you instead, is a challenge to say the least.

As for the losing friends bit, many years after the toe dipping, a former friend tricked about 6 of us round to his house on the promise of a nice dinner party. It turned out to be an Amway sales presentation given by his girlfriends parents. I was furious to be tricked like this, and haven't seen this guy since. Neither has his cousin who was one of the 6 also.

Now, if anyone ever says to me "I'd like to introduce you to a business opportunity", I run a mile.

Lastly, as dodgy as Amway is, it can't be compared to Kirby. Amway salespeople don't have to be threatened with violence to get the **** out of your house.
