What part of "if , like me, you are not prepared to take it up the **** from Simon" was unclear

Honestly, newbie mods

And I would have to say that someone in your position would be well advised to tread carefully here

Andy,
You want to become a mod? Are you totally mad? Trust me, it seriously is not worth it, well, not on here it's not. I think Diablo sums it up rather well.
Personally speaking, mods do not have *enough* power on here, they should be able to ban users, however, the powers that be say that this should be the very very last resort, this I disagree with. I like to think of baseball as a good analogy, three strikes and you're out. Unless you're a troll, in which case, banned on sight
A bit strong? perhaps, but it works
Many know that I happen to stand up for the mods, and yes, brown nosing is mentioned from time to time
Do I want to be a mod, well, I used to want to, but now? well, as others have said "what do you get from it", and the truth is, apart from a shedlload of extra grief, nothing, I cannot see any benefits. Now, if you could vape a user or two (where did that "list" go
- ah yes, it's over there
) then yeah, I'd possibly rethink.
I'm not moderator material though, well, not for SN, I'd be far, far to harsh, plus I don't like taking orders
So, bottom line, It's not worth it, it really isn't.

Being a moderator isn't all that you'd think. Sure, you get the lighter blue name and the user title, but once the novelty has worn off, you're left with cleaning up the crap. It may boost your ego a little, but that's about it.

Andy - don't do it
It will mean you have to stand in bushes with your mates/worshippers at the Surrey meet and go and sit on a table only for your mates and ignore the rest of the people at the meet.

When I was a moderator, owned a Subaru and organised the Surrey Meets I always introduced myself, talked to people, made them feel welcome, etc! I know this was true when Alex was a moderator, owned a Subaru and organised the meet.
Like any regular meet, people get into groups with their mates and it is tough for a newbie to come into that (unless they make the effort)
I found this recently at Surrey Meets which I haven't been to in a while, where although I know the faces, I really don't know the guys there. It gets to be a habit, if people don't talk to you, why should I make the effort (wrong attitude maybe) so I end up talking to people who I do know.
Then again if the draw to the meets is Subarus, why would someone want to talk to a Honda owner??
Strange though, having organised various meets over the last 5 years, I now feel like a newbie at meet!

Not a critisim, rather an observation.
And as a side issue and back on topic...
Andy... don't do it!!!
It was fun being a moderator as you know you are making a difference on a website you use a lot.
Downsides (from experience) were that people were critical of my decisions (damned if you, damned if you don't), accusations of being power mad (despite people not following guidelines), untold emails from people having a go, keyboard ninjas who threatened to put me in hospital
, racial comments, being subscribed to spam sites, people lying to you when you are trying to do the right thing.....
I could go on, but I'm sure you would find it dull!
Despite all those things, I enjoyed being a moderator and making a difference on Scoobynet (having used it for over 5 years now), but only retired when I either had a commerical interest in Subarus or when I didn't feel I had the time to do the moderator role well.
Good luck if you become one
, thank your lucky stars if you don't!!!
