David,

Is it pickup in the bores which has been identified after these failure? (as well as big end bearing)

I personally think the priming filter thing is a bit of a waste of time, but can't do any harm.

My dealer does not fill the filter
why the **** do dealers not change oil the 'correct' way for Impreza's??!!, seems strange, 30 secs to fill the filter, 30 secs to disconnect crank sensor and crank engine to build pressure. or save that minute and give yourself a bad reputation

Yes,And how many so called dealers fill the oil filter and crank the engine over till the oil light extinguishes....My bet is not many at all....Kev.

Sorry been out all day and going again to fireworks do in a few minutes.

The failure is always on the crank. Because of the flat configuration the contaminated oil after a big end failure sloshes up the side of the engine and into the lower half of the bores giving debris damage to the piston skirts and bores.

Otherwise, in practise, there is enough lube around the piston skirts to withstand the start-dry syndrome. The load is on the crank and it just won't take it.

Each to their own thoughts, re the filter deal.

PS Jiggery; not that I am aware of.

Mark...Even if you pre-fill the filter,Disconnect the crank sender..And get someone to crank the engine over till the oil light extinguishes.....And count how many times the crank pulley has been turned in revolutions before oil pressure is established...And this is in effect -Freewheeling.....Without..Tonnes and tonnes of pressure on the crankshaft,When the motor fires up..Then take into account of how many times the engine has to turn,To pump full the filter and remove all the air first,On top of the above time........Frightening.........
Just a thought......Kev.
