So who's had a Capri then?
#31
I remember a mate of mine blatting around in a light blue mk1 3.1 RS Capri with a straight through stainless race exhaust with four bits of tube snaking their way under the bottom of the car. It had a lovely burble on tickover, it scared the bejeebas out of people when he started it up, the roar when he revved it was pure automotive nirvana. The rear brakes were shot to pieces from doing stationary burn outs. Nearly twenty years ago, now I think about it. The memory of the roar of the exhaust still sends a shiver down my spine.

My first car - lowly 1.6 blue , 300 notes - did a steady 80 down the motorway at 22 mpg ta work.....and failed the mot at the end o the year ( dangerous ta drive ) with a hole in the footwell/sill area you could stick a small football thro...........Had fun anyway...

Had a 2.8i - four headlight type - in silver for a brief period. Very nice example but a bit too wallowy for me. Back in early 80s, car was a real head turner. Preferred Rover 3500VP which I also had for a brief period. My younger brother had an older Capri Ghia(rectangular headlight version). One day he gave me a lift and asked me to go careful with the passenger door. As I opened it, it fell off..... Corrosion all around the top hinge finally gave way and it became detached. I thought things like that only happened in comedy TV shows .... until then..

Had 3 Capris here.
1, 1.6 GL (silver with black vinyl roof) cost £1200 on the road new. lol
2, 2.0 S in Red on V plate. Sold with 186,000 miles on clock. Travelled everyday from Telford to Colwyn Bay whilst working in the construction industry (digger driver ) on Colwyn Bays sea defenses , putting BIG Rocks in the Sea)
3, Capri 280 in the brooklands green ( lost in divorce settlement many years ago)
The things would run on a shoe string budget and the only problem i ever had was pitting points. Easily cured with a new condenser.
arhhhhhhhhhhhhhh memories.

Brother had a 2.0 GT MkII as his first car, age 18. Gold colour, black vinyl roof, tiger seat covers !! Taking a bend in the wet, he put it through a Chinese restaurant in Edgware while still on the cover note of the insurance (spawning a whole line of family jokes, such as "Waiter, there's a Capri in my soup!"). As the engine was in good nick, Dad transplanted it into our 1.6L Cortina Estate (Mk IV) - which I then learned to drive in. As the clutch didn't fit, and as I scared my parents silly on a couple of occasions, it was deplanted again.

I've had 6 so far:
1973 Mk I 1600XL - the facelift with the bonnet bulge and the pinto engine
1974 Mk II 3000 Ghia
1975 Mk II 1600 GL
1977 Series 3 1600GL
1981 Series 3 3000S
1981 Series 3 2000S
All great and I'd definitely have another

Have had several Capri's, but the best I have been is was a lad at works Tickford, his dad now has it, its mint and I didnt expect to be all that impressed at the performance but it was really quite fast, scared me a bit !
My favourite was the MK1, best shape of the lot.

Been in plenty, never owned one but would even today, think they still look cool! O and being called Gary (but not from Essex) perhaps I could be an honourary member of the capri club!

Fond memories - Shame I never got chance to drive it
My dad had a couple of them. I loved it when he would take us to school in it. Everyone loved it. And then there was a few deliberate RWD incidents that dad would treat us to. Fantastic fun even as a passenger.
I still love the shape. IIRC we had a white 2.8 just like ollly's and then a metallic gold 2.8
I will have to show the old chap this thread, will make him grin from ear to ear!
Classic! Anyone have any interior shots? Its a long time since I saw one.

I bought Paul's (Palmer's) 2.8i Capri and am just about to sell it after having hardly used it in the last 18 months
Took it out for a run today: http://homepage.mac.com/mahony1/PhotoAlbum43.html
If I have time I'll be posting it for sale on eBay tomorrow. For some reason they appear to be making pretty good prices on eBay
1983 'A' reg, 65,000 miles, 12 months MOT, 6 months tax

I loved the Capri from being a kid, Dad had a brand new one about 1974 ? Was white with a black vynal (sp) roof anyway, Then got another about 1978 was gold and wrote the thing off on black ice went through a wall and into a field, was ok though. I wanted one when i was about 19 Dad went mad and said i'd kill myself so put a block on it, BUT i pursaded a mate to buy one ! We had that car Oooh four hours before we went through a bus shelter backwards luckily there was no bus due and we lived to tell the tale of the Ford Capri !

Got a lift home in a Capri from the 'Valley Lodge' nightclub near Manchester Airport in the early nineties with a couple of dodgy slappers, at 40 mph she put the car up on the embankment and on to its roof, it rolled a couple of times and came o rest on the road, nearly got hit by a big BMW coming the other way but luckily it had ABS and avoided us and stopped, there in the back with my mate, car upside down, the sound (and smell) of fuel escaping, his *** had fell out and was burning through the headlining so I squashed it with my hand, booted the back window out (the curved one) and we got out, about ten gallons of petrol followed us.
She turned out to be 3 times over the limit and well known to Police, no license, tax mot or insurance, we were a bit more choosy in future, they were both mingers as well, we only wanted a lift, just before we crashed she suggested we go to a 'Shabeen' is Moss Side, apparently this is an illegal drinking den in one of the more colourful areas of Manchester, hmm, wonder how long two clueless middle class drunken white boys would have lasted ?
This was not the first time I nearly died in a Capri.
