Ahw, MY01 Scooby has gone all cutesie! Those bug-eyed front lights, just waiting to gobble-up the next unsuspecting BMW318i.
The old model still lives on in the glasswork, but I'm a bit scared that the front wings look as though they've come off the Escort Cossie......

Scott, where would you prefer Subaru to spend their money, getting in italian styling house, or maybe a fancy dashboard or do you want the money spent on a well sorted chassis and stonking engine!
P.S That Jo Brand dig was bit below the belt, then again you'd probably fancy that 'bird' in the 'Crying Game'

Oh dear, I think I wanna hurl.
I am up for a new comp car next year so it has to be a new model, I was gonna be getting an Impreza turbo. I aint now if that’s for real. What have you done Subaru??
I did not think it was possible to make a car uglier than a ford Scorpio, guess I was wrong.
Remember what happened to the Scorpio, great dynamics, crap looks. No one wants one!

This is truly revolting. I was feeling a bit silly buying an MY00 in April I'm now so glad I did.
Was this new design penned by a 5 year old with a crayon ??

Its complete pants looks wise. I'll keep my MY99 and get the engine 'sorted' when it eventually wears out.
I dont care if the new model goes like stink and handles well, mods are available for present model to do just that.
Its the old case of, 'will you look back
with a sigh' when you park this piece of
dung on the drive?
Thicker metals, whoopee, do they mean recycled baked bean cans rather than the sardine cans they use at present?
I imagine the UK spoiler will be of the wing
variety though, its just 2 well known for
having one.
SUBARU HAS ****ED UP BIG TIME.

Subaru have proved that it can get the styling right and the performance right with the current and previous models. So my point is why, dear god why, have they made the new car look as goofy as this.
Italian styling, my ****.

Has anyone scanned the whole article for those of us overseas?
I'll hold judgement on the looks for now - I don't think any Impreza is good looking....didn't stop me buying one though
Thanks
Richard

Well I'll wait for the official launch to see it in the flesh, but so far I'm so glad I bought one this year and didn't wait!

I tried to save money on my ar5se and took the import route. I thought that the model was exactly the same, but upon getting it home I discovered it didn't have a hole!

What can I say? I am truly shocked.
Never has a major car manufacturer made such an abomination since Ford’s Scorpio.
It’s the cross-eyed ******* son of a Toyota Corolla and a Daewoo that I can’t remember the name of but is particularly popular in Romania.
Before yesterday I was looking forward to something more modern but subtly powerful. (I liked the black rendition that was previously on the cover of Autocar; but the blue car used in some importers advertising is not too bad). I truly hope this is another Autocar cockup because this is a disaster.
I really am lost for words. It’s not just a few things that are wrong – horrific light clusters, down turned grill, deeply set fog lights, ‘stick on’ front indicator lenses, bonnet lines from behind the lights, ‘battlith’ rear spoiler, Daewoo rear end ………..
There is no way, ever, ever, ever that I will own a car that looks like this.

Even if does 0-60 in 2 secs, 187mph top speed, superb mid range power with no lag, handles like Automans car and costs £3k?

Awwwww....come on guys!
How many of you cn honestly say you fell in love with the way the current Scooby looks the minute you saw it? (Apart from me! ).
I bet not many of you.
Let's wait until we see it a) in the flesh and b) in a nice colour.
It would take a really, really, really ginormous error of gargantuan proportions to produce a new version of a successful car that the current owners all hate....wouldn't it?
Perhaps they've styled it more for the yanks, seeing as this is the car I believe they'll be getting.
I'm gonna keep an open mind......
Stef.

What an apalling pile of "jap crap". Looks like it was styled by Daiwoo or Hyundai designers - after someone had blinded them with red hot pokers!
Seriously though, given the lack of any landscape in the Autocar photos and some suspect lighting, I am inclined to judge these as fakes. I can't believe that Subaru would do actually do this to us . .
Else, Evo here I come
Suresh
P.S. Stef - do these photos show the same style of car that the "Cloggies" were touting around? Seem to recall that you had seen said pics.
[edited to add P.S.]

It's difficult to tell from the angle, but it certainly looks the same.
I must say that I think the flared arches, whilst a bit old-hat now, really look quite good but are not clearly visible on this red car.
The current Scoob from the same angle certainly looks a lot better, but I'm still going to reserve judgement.
Scott.
I'll probably be keeping my car for some time, and I've also recently obtained afront bumper from a MY99 car so I'll be able to fit the rest of said bra....yes, there's more of it!!!!
Didn't know you were there though mate, you should have said something! The Vectra feels somewhat 'swifter' after that little blast though.

Truth is that, as the Great Clarkson says, Jap styling is at best really bland and at worst....
The current impreza is pretty dire if you take away its scoop, spoiler, and front bumper (slightly stretched ford escort)
Its the whole package of an affordable four seat sports car that makes me, and otyhers buy it.
If the new one handles better, has more power, a few niggling issues like rear window wash/wipe fixed, and still costs prety much the same, I will probably buy one.
If it has the same power and costs £25,000, I won't

The new Impreza is indeed yet a few levels uglier than its merely 'q' car- begignly designed current incarnation. But its all how you look at it.
Before simple looking, regualar spec appearing, very fast cars earned the name 'q' car.
Well today it looks like that genre has suddenly been moved on a place, with the advent of the worlds first super capable truly fast ugly car! The world has never seen one.
We'll call them 'u' cars. Save the beauty for all else in life. We will run about the continents in little supercars that even 'mad max' would be proud of!

Dear Subaru Design Department,
The new model looks pants - SHAME ON YOU!
I won't be buying one if these photos are anything to go by.
What was your remit?
- Design a Chrysler Neon/Toyota Corolla meet Hyundai hybrid with an end result that looks pathetic and a great deal less purposeful and convincing than the previous model?
NO MORE SCOOBY SNACKS FOR YOU!
Richard
P.S. thanks for making my MY00 - last of the old decent looking models, even more desirable.

Do you all believe the pictures in Autocar then????????? I doubt if they are 100% correct .... Subaru couldn't get it so wrong surely??
I bought a MY00 5-door; what a shrewd move .... it appears as if the 5-door will be 'plain looking'
Also at £25,000 ???? well it can only lift my residuals well out of the hole they are now in .... I really do feel for the owners of imports who cant get a price for their Imprezas (but not TOO much) tee hee
So, anyone want to put their name down for my car in 3 years time?? UK model - 5-door - will have about 30,000 miles - un-modified - DBM .... best offer over £20,000 gets the right to buy
