Interesting facts...
1) A Rover 75 is longer AND wider than a Land Rover Discovery!
2) A 3.0 Duratec ST V6 (226PS)V6 Mondeo has an emissions figure of 254 g CO/km
compared with...
Land Rover Discovery Diesel V6 @ 248 g CO/km
AND a Subaru 2.0 WRX STi AWD @ 265 g CO/km
Mick

The simple answer is neither are unnacceptable, as it's not the vehicles that are the problem in the main, it's the drivers!
People will always crave the imperial driving position, status etc... of a 4x4 Even if it'll never see a muddy track
People will always like a performance car.
Simple as that! I wouldn't like to see any action against either, as it would be missing the nub of the problem: the drivers. When you get a vehicle it is incumbent on YOU to learn how to handle it, whether that means adapting to the size of a 4x4 or the turn of speed of a performance car.

We have 2 scoobs and a 4x4 so there . And i havent damaged anybody elses car in any of them. I dont take any kids to school either. I can drive them all quite competently both on the road(all) and off road(4x4 surf). And i can even tow things with the surf

It has nothing to do with the type of car IT IS the standard of driving in this country.
I do somewhere between 30,000 and 50,000 miles a year so i can easily comment and over the last 3ish years have noticed it doesn't matter what vehicle it is.
I used to really love/enjoy driving, not anymore one of the reasons i chopped the scoob in for a Nissan Navara.
I bought the Navara because it is more practicle for me (mountain bike/power kiting gear/jetski) plus it is nice knowing if some drunk/drugged/uninsured/banned/no licence/bad (add your own to this list) driver hits me hopefully they will come off worse.
As for parking, i park well away from everybody as i did in the Scoobs (had2).
While i'm on about parking, the spaces ARE getting smaller and that is down to the greed of the companies that own them, Squash them in makes more ££££
I will be fitting a full stainless nudge bar on the front for the reasons stated above. The rear is already fitted with a towbar
Pls the Navara is great fun in the wet, side ways round roundabouts

Maybe we need Deer-Bars instead. £10.5 Million pounds worth of damage per annum .
