Austen, it sounds like you have had a look around under the intercooler, so could you confirm that this is the bung where the temperature sensor will go?

I have a 8mm allen key, but that bung does seem to be quite tight, with not a lot of room around it. What's the best way to remove it?

Stefans site recommends using a hex socket, long extension bar and a sturdy socket wrench to remove it.

I would also be up for a Kit Austen - I have boost, oil pressure and water temp. Cheers for the group buy the gauges look great.

I'm fitting the senders tomorrow morning, and will try and post some pics in the evening

 

Had a look this morning, you will definetly have to remove the alternator and intercooler. It was too frigin cold to do that today and if i'm taking that lot off, i want to fit my downpipe at the same time. So it will have to wait until i get a full day free!!

 

My gauges arrived the other day and was well pleased. When I was going through the oil temp kit on the smoke series gauge there was a small metal block which allows you to connect the oil temp sender and the oil pressure sender through this block, which looking at it you could connect to the existing oil pressure hole.

Could somebody confirm if they had the same block and can I use it as stated above as one piece instead of having to put the temp sender above no.3 cylinder.

I wouldn't thing you could use this block for the oil temp take off as not enough oil would pass by to give a accurate reading.

The block you describe is probably a t piece to allow you to refit the original oil pressure switch & keep the warning light on the dash working.

I havn't got my gauges yet so not 100% certain,!!!!!!!!!!!!99.9% though.

The original pressure switch is 1/8BSP, so the thread is incorrect in the T piece/block supplied. Plym51 is correct about the oil temp sender, it needs to be in a flow of oil to get correct readings.

I've just popped over to my dealers...

They were going to try to fit the gauges today. They got the newage center pod and they also managed to get the face plate for the pod too (sold separately from the pod ) and guess what!?

52mm gauges do not fit!!!

The subaru gauges are much smaller than these ones!

They are going to have a go anyway... they are going to machine the face plate, and we'll see how it would look... but I think we will lose some of the silver surround and look rubbish.

If it looks crap, I guess I'll have to rethink the pod and find an alternative (I guess I could always use the free one )

If it looks OK they may be going in today in which case I'll take some photos.

 

Why not make a new face plate, the pod is a standard din size, so there is no reason why the gauges will not actually fit the pod. I reckon an aluminium face plate would look rather trick.

 

Does that mean that you have the conversion kit for the sensors...if
so can you please give details and pics if possible...

Hi Austen,

The gauges do not fit in the pod. the height of the aperature at the front is too small. If you place the gauges behind the opening (as it would sit installed) the silver rims are obscured at the top and bottom... hold on let me get the picture

Ok...If you look at the picture of the pod:

The gauges do not fit the holes in this face plate, with larger holes they would slide in fine, but with the extra couple mm silver surround it does not fit the aperature in the pod. And therefore the face plate + gauges would still not sit flush to the front of the pod. ( is that clear? it is kind of hard to describe unless you have all the bits sitting infront of you...)

 

I understand, what an **** wipe!!!!! Looks like i will be definetly making my own!!!

I hope you get it sorted, what are your plans?? You could always get a defi style pod??

Don't know what's going to happen now... I think the dealers are going to have a tinker and see if they can still fit it without it looking rubbish (as I paid for all the bits ) If it's crap, we go to plan B: defi style

 

Ok, had a reply from Lemans, the kit will be just over £18 (inc VAT) and will include all fittings, braided stainless pipe, machined T piece and the bung adaptor, basically everything you need to fit the pressure and temperature senders.

Just give them a call on (01234) 268213 , say that you want the fitting kit arranged by myself (Austen Greenway) and they will sort you out.

Get fitting everyone!! I'm doing mine tuesday (but using the naff pod as a stop gap untill i have made my own). First pics posted up wins a prize

Just a quick update on the newage pod saga. The dealers popped out the normal clock pod to be replaced and found the AVIC-X1 hide away unit installed under it. So they are going to have to move that first
I was wondering where they put that... I could not find it under any of the seats D'oh

Anyhow. I'll know if anything can be sorted out using the newage pod by the end of the day and will let you know

The T piece which comes with the boost gauge will work fine (although i had already bought another one that didn't work before i realised this!!!)

 

Thanks for sorting this Austen - ordered my bag of bits from LeMans this morning. Fitting mine above the CD player when I swap my double DIN one out for an MP3 player - just need a 3X52mm single din blank now.....
