project 22B - almost at the end

rob has since fitted some nice plates for housing the air injectors and the oil pressure plate.
I need pat to sort out a decent connector for the oil pressure sensor as at the moment it is stretched over the air inlet.
All the mikalor clamps are now in place.
need to run some more cables for the oil primer and the power steering actuator relay which will come on with the fuel pump.
Header tank will be a combined power steering and water header, just for neatness.
Decided not to fit fog lights or HIDs as it is getting a bit noise heavy and overly wired.
Plus I think it looks better with just covers!

power steering is from a 106 gti or saxo vtr.
apparently all 106s with power steering run the same pump.
I like the fact also that I can make the steering heavier by reducing the voltage supply it sees!

It needs an engine running related feed ie fuel pump for relay signal, a remote reservoir location, custom plumbing from steering rack which was not easy, and then to make use of the space created in front of the inlet manifold takes custom bracketry which is a nightmade to have made.
And all just to retain air con.

Saw this car today at the gtiroc rolling road day, what can I say the word awesome just doesn't do it justice!!! and the fact it made nearly 100bhp more at the wheels than the most poweful gtir made at the crank was very impressive(and 200bhp extra at the wheels lol) , I'll let Adam tell you what the figures were though
all I can say was that there was rumor that the figures could have been a fair bit higher due to one of the roller banks hitting max hp!!
Was also nice the see Rob's and Paul's cars run aswell also very impressive certainly opened a few eyes and mouths lol, shame Paul's car had some problems on the day though so it couldn't show its full potential

I am getting serious grief for this over on 22b.com because I wasn't fussed and desperate to brag about the rolling road results.
I am not going through that here as no one understood where I was coming from their either.
The rolling roads both here and at PE on thursday running the proper optimax and full strength NF seemed to give 550bhp ish.
At pe we saw 503lbft and 553bhp with 6 people trying to keep it on the rollers.
pts saw similar torque think it was actually 510 but was lower on the run they recorded.
It made 446 at the wheels but that was due to slip. This gave a figure of 570bhp, but you could see the rolling road was not happy as there was a spike in the coast down curve.
570 was back corrected to 550 to account for ambient temps I guess or pressure - that bit wasn't explained to me.
Once the transmission loss spike was removed from this curve the resulting power about the 530bhp mark, but they were lifting off at 6500 so as not to overspeed the rollers.
This was fine by me as peak power had already been reached and I would rather not see thast kind of load on the car all the time.
Not sure what this maxing of the rollers is but apparently there are independent loads on each axle of the car and I believe the first two runs were done with the diff open. I told the guy to lock the diff but he was adamant it wouldnt make a difference. My concern was that the rear axle would be getting 67% of the 500lbft (556 from the engine dyno which might be too much for it.
Apparently at around 4000 rpm, the dyno hit a saturation point and the torque would not climb above that figure for the remaiing duration of the run. I presume this is what was meant by maxxing out the rollers.
Both PE and pts had trouble holding the torque as the turbo came in, and I believe it climbed up the rollers at the back in both locations. You could openly see it lifting when it came on to boost.
Datalogs from the real road show it to be making 2 bar in all gears at around the 3500 mark so it develops significantly more torque low down on the road than the plots suggest.
I would scan the plot and post them but I have been doing other things and hence it hasn't been at the fore front of my mind.

Looks like good results, but as ever, RR's are not what it's about really, it's what it's like on the road, and from the sounds of it, it's a beasty

need to get the air con going, then neaten up some things like the passenger footwell.
Fit the psi secs monitor for use with the pectel, and the switch gear for anti lag and launch control and then the boost control pot.
then sat nav, and have door cards re trimmed.
After that I just polish it and take it on track.

I think it was off the road from feb 02. It started working again about 2 years later and has since been on and off the road until the proper engine went in.
I still have a spare engine sitting in the garage just in case.
Power is coming down to 400 to give some longevity.
and for cruising round europe.

have a look at this page on bbs.22b.com about half way down in the series of pictures, you will see just about all the pictures of the power steering pump fitted.
I think there may be a few earlier on in the thread.
