The guy who wrote the review ...& one of the motoring press's better drivers imho (although porche owners who used to read 'performance car' may disagree )

I hope you have some good evidence to prove that statement to be incorrect??
I think the term maybe "in your opinion"

For me (and it seems a hell of a lot of other 'clueless morons' as you seem to class people as) there is a hell of a lot of cars that I personally would consider better value for money

For someone like me who still has a little bit of youth on his side a WR1 is easier to insure than a MY05 with PPP and upgraded wheels and suspension.

Low and behold it does and the new 05 STi has been built exactly how they should have built them.

WR1 is not a normal production impreza ... it is a special edition ... so Subaru has done nothing wrong and duped no-one. The fact that they made the WR1 faster and more powerful than any other UK impreza is a bonus. 0-60 in 4.2 is an amazing achivement which is completely accurate - as it has been tested numerous times!!
Sorry but thats Bolloxxxxxxxx
I'm not going down the same old route again. but

The WR1 is no quicker than my Standard STI PPP full stop... it may be every so slightly quicker... but it certainly IS NOT in another leage as some WR1 owners cling onto!
Special edition it may be... but it was also a very effective marketing excercise that sold 400+ cars for Subaru at the time when sales naturaly drop of becouse a new version was on the horizon! If you fail to see that logic then you need to open your eyes a little...

As for the Performance... well... in reallity its Categorically
no quicker than a STi with PPP. unless you have the special one!

There's been two occations where two Sti's and a FQ300 8 have run alogside a WR1... and in a line there's nothing in it... around a track both me and my m8 in the Evo did exactly the same lap times as the WR1... all bang on the same times... And the WR1 driver in question is a very capable driver indeed... he's also a nice guy as well... in fact its fair to say he's one of the few people i've seen who really does go for it; fully commited at the last track meet... It was ace to watch a WR1 being belted around like that...!
At the end of the day though it did the same times as me and the EVO and I don't have a DCCD or even the prodrive spring kit!
I
f you somehow think your WR1 got the special treatment by prodrive and was breathed upon that little bit more then happy dreaming!

Then again if at some point your WR1 monsters a well driven STi PPP i'll accept that prodrive really did find the biggest and baddest 15 stallions ever seen and poped them under the WR1's bonnet!

I've yet to see any video of any of these WR1's leaving FQ330's or PPP's for dead... as the figures suggest... lets get this correct 2.5 seconds quicker to 100 is a frocking longway infront...

I'll just add. I have absolutly nothing against the WR1 or anyone who baught one... I spent 29k on my STI ppp and bar the colour i'd have bought a WR1 had they been out a year ealier... the only thing that intrigued me was the daft performance increase with almost the same power and wieght...Mmmmm

I bought a MY04 STI about a month ago even though I knew an improved MY05 STI was on the horizen. I'm not depressed in the least about the existence of a new improved STi or the WR1 - you pay your money and you take your choice.
Most of these posts WR1 vs STI with PPP are just pathetic, If you're not happy with your scooby or are p****d off at Subaru, go and buy a bloody evo or a micra.
