FFS not this again. Real world point to point there wouldn't be much to choose between them - there would be far more difference made by the driver's ability to exploit the potential of each car.
At the end of the day they are different cars in different markets - thank God!

Doesn't stop them though does it!! Bloody hell.
Chalk Vs Cheese.
This is such a pointless excersize - 1/4 racing is al about the start, and it isn't often you are at a set of traffic lights hand brake on on the biteing point at around 2500 rpm then dump the clutch blah blah.
I have attended many BMW meets, and once went head to head with a E36 EVO, who couldn't leave the wifes Volvo - the volvo does a 14.7 at best. So in this case the midrange is where the Volvo feels most comfortable.
Take a PPP v's a E46 M3 - At a guess the PPP has 300bhp and 300lb/ft (approx) @ 6000 ?!?1 rpm. The M3 has 340bhp and 260lb/ft @ 8000 rpm ?!?!? Point is torque wins races bhp sells cars......
Both cars have there advantages, but are 2 very different cars to compare. Both are drivers machines, both look good, both go very quick;y, both cost a fortune to insure, service, fuel etc......
Drive both see how you feel i say. I live in Derbyshire and spend 1.5 hr/ day on fast country lanes - the Scooby is my choice, however if i lived in a city the M3 is choice.

I had a tussle with an 03 plate M3 coming off a roundabout onto a dual carriageway...i was really going for it but he was pulling away ever so slightly. Might be something to do with his tip tronic gearbox and my sh*te driving but it was quick.

and well to fuel this mass-debate further
my sti has certainly pulled away from a few m3's much to the owners dislike... however it gives wr1's a run for their money too ehh DAZZA
M3 german and im afraid over rated and over priced
sti japanese under rated and well priced
ALL IMHO of course

Have have only seen two new M3s on the drag strip and one was in 14s and the other was a fair bit more. Both lightly modded too.
Never had any problems with them on the road either.
BTW doesnt the CSL take 13.3 odd seconds 1/4mile?

Anything else we shouldn't do which is uncool (in your superior opinion)?

I've had a few run ins with M3 drivers and always come away in front, maybe there's a lot of bad drivers behind the wheel!!
However I would never buy a beemer, everywhere I go there seems to be at least 6 in front or behind me, infact that's the same reason I won't buy another scooby, they seem to be appearing everywhere, it's a shame though, they're both great cars.

Run across 3 M3's, one E46 coupe, one E46 cabriolet and one E36 evo, all looked very shocked as my lil ol scoob started to bear down on them
(or pull away in the case of the cabriolet
)
M3's are quick cars, and not all STi's will keep up, but there are one or two that Subaru make that are M3 beaters out of the box

Anyone supercharged an M3 to good effect? I think that could be quite good fun.

There is one here, but it only adds 100 BHP to what is a heavy car.

Is the 1/4 mile on gravel, ice, snow or sand???? No, its on tarmac. Comparing a 4wd sooped up hot hatch with an M3 is laughable.

Im confused as I have heard or seen, read that 1/4 mile time of an STI if around low 13s but on best motoring they claim to be around 12.8 or 12.7s which is correct? or are drivers in bestmotoring just too good and burn a lot of clutch. http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm
My scoob got whooped by a CSL on a straight from 90mph onwards but I have sat behind a very well driven one round the nurburgring for a whole lap.
Its about the driver not only the car ........
I would own a CSL tomorrow given the chance

not into drag racing but I can't believe people are quoting that 'simulation' site as gospel!
If you go by the Autocar 0-100-0 tests the WR1 does 100 in 11.39, the M3 in 12.12 and the CSL in 10.82
oh, and the enzo in 6.69

Numbers numbers.... waste of time...
Its like saying Kelly Holmes can't beat so and so because she weighs x kgs more and recorded x time in this race, but some other runner weighs less, has stronger muscle fibres and runs better in x conditions etc.
There are so many factors in the car debate, gearing, ambient temps (which will affect at turbo car more) etc etc.
Im sure a couple of people on here will have both cars so if its that important, just find a stretch of road, film the race and end the debate once and for all.
