Take your time m8 and look around......

I bought 2 WRX's this year, one for £2.5K and other £3.4K........
Both were excellant condition for ages with loads of bills spent for right jobs, new brakes, belt changes, services etc... funny enough the cheaper one was almost mint!(both 94 imports with 82 and 84K miles).

It's a buyers market, (no offence) but Impreza's have now gone into the lower classes of ownership and because of that class, those buyers only offer sod all as they have no respect for the type of car it really is!

It does help if you are spending that sort of money in that price range, have someone that knows these cars well and know what to look for as yes there are bargains, but there are also ****ters......

Good Luck.....

Don't immediately rule out crash damaged cars...

When I was looking about 5 1/2 yrs ago I had enough to get an M reg high miler. A P reg previous crash damage came up at the same price, low miles. My mate who was an MoT inspector & long term mechanic said he would go with me & check it over. We had it on a ramp & everything. Got thumbs up and I got a bargain - saved about £4,500, cos there obviously wasn't much interest...
Had it 5 1/2 yrs now done a few mods, enjoyed it very much. Had mates trying to buy it off me... but what else could I get for the money that would be such a fantastic car????

Go on get one! - do it now!

Cheers

Mick

Thomo, A bit concerned about this noise. What should I be looking for ? Any particular rev-range, speed etc?

I've noticed one or two cars advertised with recent major engine repair jobs. Is this a common issue or just misuse ?

Buzz, cant open the first pics matey. Classic . Keep getting a copy of my local oriental takeaway menu.

Cheers

Its difficult to say.I would suggest you look around dont rush theres plenty for sale.Ask what oil they have been using fully synthetic i.e 0-30 0-40 will slowly knacker the engine.Go to a few meets from the forum you get great advice and you can hear what they should sound like. The scoob is a fantastic driving experience like me if you have always wanted one buy one.GOOD LOOK.

Hi, you're a year too late

This is the what you could have got for £5.3k a year ago. Nearly 100k miles but was still a completely sound car. Any Impreza will cost a fair bit to run, certainly don't be scared off unduly by a leggy car as long as it's been maintained well and is in good nick. Just take your time because there are also some real dogs out there...

Good luck

Steve.

Excellent thread - very useful comments in here.

I'm looking to buy a classic Scoob next Spring and my budget is fairly similar although hopefully around the £6,000 mark. Have seen a nice one very local to where I am. Don't know how to upload the picture so won't attempt it. The text is as follows though:

1995 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX V LIMITED
265bhp, M reg. 53000 miles, Recent service, new cambelt, Motd 08/05, tax 10/04, new front tyres, s/s exhaust, STi alloys, full electrics, Cat 1 alarm + immobiliser, Tracker, undersealed, 1st owner since import, no expense spared, must be seen, no agencies. £6,495 . o.n.o.
Price: £6,495 ono.

I think the suggestion to take along a seasoned Scooby owner / mechanic or even an AA dude is a good idea. On cars like these, a bit of experience would go a long way.

I'm in the middle of importing my first Impreza from Japan. It's a white 1994 WRX arriving middle of October. I'm using a company called Awesome Imports. I checked them out and they had really good reviews. In all the car is costing me £3450 plus register, tax and MOT so about £4000 all in. I'll let you know how it goes if you are still thinking of importing one?

The only bad thing is the waiting, just want the car now!!

Definately. If I was buying a scoob again I could do it so much better now, after a few months experience with the car.

is it ok to go for the older shape one's with relatively high mileage?

i've saw a few however (on the trader) that have only done 37k on an m plate, and are going for around 5.7k. i have a suspicion that these may have been clocked as it works out these cars would have done around 4k per year!!!

anyone want to shed any light on these ones? anyone from here ever bought one of these cheap ones?

whats the important things to look for if i'm buying one of these too?
