Different cars are stolen for different reasons.

Novas/cavaliers/metros are stolen by joyriders as they are easy to steal

Cars also stolen to export and re-sell and re-id in this country.

Breakers yards are full of stolen cars/parts

Scoobs are very popular as getaway cars for bank jobs etc as they are easy to drive and very rapid from point to point regardless of weather. Also the way these cars are stolen is usually higher profile as the theft is usually aggrevated (use of firearms etc)

Then probabilty of scoob being stolen = once every 27 years !!

All of the above is subjective and open to debate but it does give a reasonable idea of the real probability of having your car stolen. (Reduce that probability again for the number that are jacked compared to traditional theft.)
Hardly an accurate way of looking at it.

Besides....£1000 insurance without discounts??? Try £3500+

Mine (S-plate UK Turbo) was the subject of an attempted theft while parked on my mates drive in his small-ish village about 12 miles from brum. while parked next to a '52 plate Leon R, a '52 Rover 25, and a J-plate XR4x4. Parked behind all these and blocking us in was a an MY96 Rover Coupe Turbo. Mine was the only car they touched.

The cops who attended said that they see alot of them stolen in the brum area - they said they are a very popular getaway car because they are fairly easy to drive fast. Also in the past I've been pulled over by a cop wanting to check mine wasnt stolen and he was saying that most subarus in brum hve been stolen at one point! (I think he might have been exagerating a touch on that one!)

BOB'5 You can't ignore discounts. The comparison is between the money the insurance company takes in and what it pays out. The headline insurance premium is irrelevant. Insurers would not give discounts that caused them to suffer a loss.

I pay £600 and my car is worth £12000, the insurance company has assessed that I will make a total loss claim once every 20 years. Allowing for lesser claims and admin and the figure of 27 years looks reasonable to me. It's not supposed to be accurate, just to show that its not likely to be a weekly or annual event as reading some of the threads on here might lead you to think.

It's not a joke, but I don't lose any sleep over it.

iam paranoid about such things but its peace of mind and hardly an effort!
i always tell the wife to make sure she keeps the doors locked, as there are a lot of 12/13 year old kids nicking handbags of the seat at traffic lights to feed their habbits!!!

You lot just made me glad I live in the countryside in Scotland. Fvck it sounds like Harlem, New York down there or GTA the game. Getaway cars, firearms, feeding habits. Shoot the fvckers if they look at your house or drive squint. You guys are just a few years behind Florida etc.

Wonder where it all went wrong...........maybe we have all had a bad car crash and gone to hell.

Unhappy

Parts of the UK are now worse than America. I think there was a report last year showing that you were less likely to experence violent crime in New York than in London but dont worry we are all safe really look at all the Gatso's they must be making us all safer!
