When's Dave back off holiday? It's kinda 'sensible' around here without him...

And what do you mean, "Ooh.. good." ?

Hi Guys,

Well, the Scoob is finally gone. Just handed the keys over to the Audi dealer this lunch time... Only got 8 weeks to wait now for the new A3 to arrive...

Will hopefully make it to some of the meets in future, although it is becoming increasingly difficult with my work now, taking me all over the country....

Cheers Chaps and Chapesses...

Reminds me. I must give The Bridge a call to let them know we're back...

Few things to point out chaps & chapesses....

1. Make sure you pair up to take advantage of the 2-1 offer..
2. Kids have to be out by 9. Bit of a bummer this one..
3. If there are 3 of you.. and you order 4 meals.. ensure that the 4th 'person' is in the toilet or 'will be along shortly', as you can't order 4-3. Bit daft, but hey ho..
4. Bring any old car mags and DVD's to share... (Daz.. any old Hi Fi ones will be good )

Looking forward to next week...

Wink

Phil

Glad to hear things are ok with you mate. Thanks for the kind words, don't think my A3 will be doing any Scooby speeds/acceleration, but the 2.0l TDI Sport should hold it's own on the road most days.... Nice to swap Alcantara for Leather too.... Oh, and a decent audio system.... And the Xenon lights.

Alan

Hopefully, me and Kath will be there this Thursday... Subject to the hell hole called the M1 being kind to me. Got the day off Friday, as it is Kath' birthday... Ace!!!

Mmmm, wonder if this post will be moderated...??

Cheers
Simon

Chris.. what you got? I didn't have a look at you system at thet BBQ. I just remember it playing in the background..

I've just auditioned some new Musical Fidelity's. X-Ray V3 player & the X-150 amp. Bloody lovelly into my Kef's... but left the MF's underworked. Once they're in, time for some B&W 700 series speakers.

I did look at the Cyrus stuff (8's).. (I know Daz has these), but the MF's were gorgeous sounding. Handled Pink Floyd's Division Bell very well!

Chris. Are you on the right thread, or did I miss something?

Dave, I've got some old (with a capital O, L & D = 20 years) Technics stuff that my good lady got with some money from here dad.

They have some sentimental value and have just about died. I played a few tracks from Paul Wellers Studio 150 and it sounded really crap. Even 'Fives' We Will Rock You track with Brian May (better than you may think) was better on our crappy Aiwa boogie box..

So I sat in Huddersfield Hi Fi's auditioning room and listened to them feeding my speakers. Bit bass light due to the room build, but totherwise stunning.

I have a decent stand (Soundstyle), some nice Italian marble to sit the speakers on, VDH The Source Interconnects and some QED Silver Anniversary Bi-Wire.. all being ruined by the source & amp.. So time to go!

This thread was reported for certain personal comments. Those posts have been removed. It's a personal matter between those parties (they know who they are). There is no benefit to posting this kind of thing on a public BBS - it only ends with trouble.

You'll have to trust me on this as I am not going into details, raking up the deleted posts.

As I said, what's up with the MF stuff Chris ? Didn't mean you Al, but have fun auditioning (always fun, esp when you don't have the cash to buy )

Cyrus stuff is always v.good. I have an old Cyrus II/PSX and a DAD7 CD player that are older than my Corrado and I love them to bits even now. Good job, as I can't afford to upgrade them

Tread carefully with B&W speakers. I always liked them, and wanted some, but a mate who's just been through a BIG upgrade blitz had some on test for a couple of weeks and we found a glaringly big hole in the bottom end (cue Apple ). On Tracy Chapmans 'Mountains 'o Things' there was a significant gap in the frequency range in the mid bass. Confirmed it with some classical church organ. I think they were the P7 or 8, about £2k which is a lot of money for a speaker with such a design flaw. The shop (Sevenoaks) tried justifying it with waffle, then supplied another pair in case they were faulty but it was just the same.

The jammy g!t then landed a big contract and moved up a league or 4. He's now running a Red Rose valve amp (£8.5k) through Wilson Benesch speakers (£8.5k). Glorious

Dave, thing is I do have the cash to upgrade. I've got about 2k I'd like to put down on the upgrade. Only problem is the Kef Q35's are a little short of what the MF kit can deliver.. gives me a reason to look at the speakers later.

The X-ray setup has been widely reported as giving a better overall sound than it's bigger brother 3.2's for less money. The internals are effectively the same but in smaller extruded aluminium cases. Has this something to do with it? Cyrus seems to get a fine sound from small packages too..

I need to find the time to audition some more as parting with a wedge that size demands some serious listening too, especially as it could be with me for another 20 years.. (low 50's then )

HB.. what you looking at now?

I wouldn't like to recommend any products as I have been out of touch with the scene for a while now due to finances and other interests. I'm more into AV these days, but that may change when I move house as the new living room will allow the system to sing, whereas it has always been stifled in my current place, probably contributing to the diminished interest.

I would however question your musical taste. 5IVE FFS

Excuse me, but you appear to have missed the age point. I will be in my low 50's in 20 years time..

**Cough**

Have you not heard that 5 track? A pretty rockin take on 'we will rock you' with Brian May walking on stage part way through to do his thing. Hairs on the back of neck time.. bit like Elton John & George Michael.. well, almost

Unfortunately I have heard that track. Bundle it in with all the other pretty, talentless boy band dross. I'm fed up with covers and recycled karaoke muzak. Total lack of original talent and creativity. The whole point of the track IIRC was to promote a lacklustre film by using the kiddie pop flavour of the week, lightly spiced with input from the original artist to give it psuedo credibility. Sounds like a marketing exercise rather than artistic creativity

As for anything standing on end when those 2 ponced up nancys appear anywhere, you're starting to worry me

Dave - nowt's wrong with the MF stuff mate. In fact the CD player I was auditioning is the MF A308. Big bu@@er.... Too heavy to put on the glass stand! More depth, incisiveness & clarity - I know you understand what I'm on about.

Al - any time mate. Seriously. Bring some CDs and we'll have an evening's audition. Anyone else welcome to tag along too.

CU Thurs guys!
