just re read your post, you was on about Andys car being stickered up and not yours. Just ignore all my posts lol.
There was a blue bugeye wagon behind me on the one way through Tyldesley yesterday, looked as though it had just had a good polish

Still it gave me an excuse to get a new exhaust!!
I was along that road last night (Manchester Road isn't it), but it was about 9ish. I was on a mission of mercy for my pregnant wife and her 'need' for a KFC Tango Ice Blast thingy

And you sir are a hero... I want a new 'slightly louder' backbox and you have just given me the best reason ever to explain to her indoors why I need one. And your right, that bottom one is a bit of a git if you hit it slightly wrong.

yeah Manchester road thats the one, only been living round here 18 months and still don't know the road names.
For load backboxes, hmmm the one I just got is loud, very loud. Gives a major deep growl/rumble on idle and a really deep throbbing noise when on full chat. It sounds like thunder though when you first start the car, its great. Only thing is having to drive in first gear down my road so not to disturb the neighbours to much (half six in morning)

Which box have you got fitted jaytc? I'm looking for something louder, but not too stupid so I wake up the neighbours. I was looking at the vortex and the ninja on scoobyworld, but i'm really not sure.

Then its the undercar neons, pimped out windows, 22" chrome spinners, remove the rear seats and replace with some ICE and a 14 year old bird, then I'm all set for hanging out at Maccy D's

Ive got the scoobyclinic 4.5 inch backbox. I have also got it with the straight through centre section so that probably accounts for the noise. I imagine the backbox though would still be quite loud. I was thinking about the vortex but when I need something I don't like waiting for it so I drove over to the clinic to get the zorst.
Ive already got the pimped out back windows, got the gold wheels and a boot with 2 subs and an 800watt amp so just missing the neons (funnily enough though have been thinking about neons recently) Not sure about the maccy d's though (or the 14yr old bird - 16 maybe)

I think I have just heard you on Elliott Street. Didn't see the car just heard the best sound ever from an exhaust. 5.15 pm. Hope it was you but if it was you I am jealous to ****. Sod the neighbours those tones are to be cherished.
On par with Beethoven.

No excuse for missing you now is there. That is a serious note. To make ours pop (for effect as you do) I let my foot off the gas quickly then back on. Always has desired effect then dump valve hisses shortly after foot has gone back on just to add the extras. Will listen out for you although it won't be that hard.
Spot you properly soon.
P.S Theres still an echo on Elliott Street even now.

Ok, that does it. All this talk of deep rumbles has got me jealous. I need to sort out this poxy double barreled pea shooter and get something with a bit more poke Then I can race up Elliot Street too

Quite like the look of the oval Magnex, but I don't know what it would sound like. Not overkeen on the Ninja jap look and I dont want one of those chav looking bean cans welded to a bit of pipe.

Next problem is fitting. Any good mechanics round here that would fit one on the cheap if I was to order it via the web ????

I was tempted with the oval magnex, however when I mentioned to the guys at scoobyclinic that I wanted something that pronounced the growl of the engine, they just smiled and recommended their own box.
If you want one fitting just give me a shout, simple job, talking about an hour max.

Just had a look at the SC website and their back box... I think 4.5" is a bit big for what I want. After all its only a WRX I still like that Magnex. Oh this is going to be hard.

I reckon this will happen in the next couple of weeks so if your available to show me what to do. I am a bit handy with the spanners, but I've not done an exhaust yet. Just got to put the scoob through it's service, so theres another 200 quid i need to spend

yeah it is 4.5inch, I think they also do a 3 inch as well. The magnex though did look good when i saw it.
Changing the backbox is easy, its literally 2 bolts thats it. Then just wriggle it free from the rubber mounts. Reffiting is the opposit, put on the mounts first then marry it up to the centre section, use some exhaust putty(or gasket if you have one) line up and tighten, start engine let it warm up check for leaks etc job done.
Just let me know though if you want a hand. (not done a bug/blobeye before though, but imagine its the same)

Recreational pharmacist?

Not seen any scoobs in ages. Used to be one outside St Stevens school in the afternoons, but I've not been past at that time recently..

not an hour job as its just the backbox, so probably 20 mins or so!
The hour was for the centre section as well.

Is that a DeCat centre section? I was wondering about that and whether I would need to remap.. money will be tight if I had to do all that as well.

A

ps the Magnex is right up there at the moment... and its a bit cheaper, so e DeCat is a possibility too.

No remap needed for a centre decat and backbox, you dont really need one with a downpipe either (although you can get boost spikes without)You can get 2 types of centre decats, resonated or unresonated like mine (noisy//loud)

I'll ask the question about the resonated/unresonated centre decat. The guy I spoke to said it was possible to do the jobs separately to keep cash flow problems down. But I think a centre decat is on the cards.... not sure it will be worth it power wise, but i may just sound a bit better.

I'll leave the remap off the shopping list then... until the next modification takes hold.

Thanks for the info.

yes they can be done at seperate times. The centre decat will liberate a few more horses, nothing major, but you should still be okay come mot time as your downpipe decat should take care of that. It should help the sound as well, specially if you get one that is unresonated (cheaper option as well)

Think is knowing when to stop, I started with a decat downpipe, then ended up uprating the fuel pump and getting a power fc fitted and mapped

Am I best keeping the centre cat and do the downpipe cat instead (MOT wise and those horses).
I've just had a proper look at the system on a newage and there are 4 sections to it. Now I'm not looking for huge power increases, if I was I'd start off by buying an STi. Just a bit of a burble and some fun when the loud pedal in pressed is all I'm after. So I'll start with the centre section and back box and see how we go from there.

You will always get more power from removing the downpipe cat as this is the main restriciton for your turbo, however for the mot if you only have the centre cat, I think you have to have the engine really warmed up for the centre cat to work effectively.

A cheap mod for a bit more power would be a dawes device (manual boost controller) you can plumb this into your turbo line and set your boost slightly higher, this will also give faster spoolup as well. Think they are about £30 - £35, the ecu can cope with the extra fuelling for it. (ideally though you need a boost gauge to see what boost your running)

We had a lot of trouble getting ours through the MOT. They kept it running for a while before checking emissions. Even then they played around a lot to pass it. If you choose this route fill up with fuel before taking it in and take it somewhere that are prepared to spend the extra time. It can even keep up with jaytc's girlfriend now in her pug.

You may have to get your hands dirty in the process but you can pop round no problem (bearing in mind I have never done this before) to give moral support.

I am getting impatient, so it looks like I'll be getting the parts on saturday with a view to fit them on sunday. I'll need to source a couple of axle stands first though. I'm using mine propping up an old ZX awaiting some front end suspension work. I'll be checking they still have them in stock tomorrow and I'll give you a shout when it's a definate goer.

Thanks for the offer jaytc, but I pulled a bit of a deal. I found the system cheaper online so the garage are going to fit it FOC and a bit of a saving on the price too so everyones a winner... Instead of fitting it on Sunday I can be tearing up and down Tyldesley waking everyone up
