I totally agree. I too am ashamed to be English. I reckon Lionel Blair would do a better job of running this SH****LE!! Bloody dogooders are to blame! Why does everything have to be so "PC"!

Yet another thread for the rose tinted glasses possie.

We have gone from a commentary about a bloke following youths who broke into a garage, who quite possibly were deterred from thievery/damage by his actions, to let's blame Blair for everything again.

Shock horror, examples of the original post were commonplace before the last 7 years, and unthinkably decades before that.

Never had this problem when I was a lad, what the hell is up with this generation.
I don't understand this comment unless you tell me you spent your youth in the Shetland Islands. Of course everything was better in the good ol days when there was no need for a police force because there was no crime

I would suggest from reading many politically ignorant comments, that people actually enroll in a government and politics course at their local college, and then actually give us the benefit of your knowledge rather than 'Blairs to blame' catch all speeches which pop up in nearly every thread like this.

In the past several years some of the most draconian legislation in regard to civil liberties has been passed by parliament with the stewardship of one of the most right wing Home Secretaries ever to try and combat crime, yet laughably bringing back national service is seen as some sort of 'fix it' for all our crime problems.

Of course when we had national service, there was very little crime

For me, I don't always say "Blairs to blame" but if anyone suggests England isn't deteriorating into anything other than ****hole then they are wrong.

I take that is a reference to all the inappropriately sighted revenue generating "safety cameras" then?

How do YOU know it's laughable??

Many kids (and tomorrow's adults) today have little respect and are often ill-disciplined. Fact.

YOU TELL ME how to re-instate a society where the kids are TAUGHT right from wrong, to RESPECT their elders, to VALUE their and other people's property.

Hope for the best???

Keep voting Labour as it will "all come right in the end"??

Let's hear YOUR solution then. Don't just patronise.

Lord Woolf, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. Just correcting a political boffins spelling above.

If you want to use the word patronizing I think you'll find that its a well placed description due to the ignorant comments being made on here.

Bring back national service? OK lets start with who's going to pay for it all shall we? Any idea as to how much this would cost? After a few years of enforced militarization people like you will be screaming about how high their taxes are. And funnily enough, I shouldn't think it will make any difference at all to crime figures.

YOU TELL ME how to re-instate a society where the kids are TAUGHT right from wrong, to RESPECT their elders, to VALUE their and other people's property.
This starts with parental control. Sadly in due thanks to Thatchers revolution of individualisation and greed promotion, qualities you mention were dumped.

Our society seems to be deteriorating into a Chav infested island. No one is saying crime didn't happen but certainly attitudes of more elderly people are a damn sight better than our younger Chavs. Where I live 5 kids constantly make peoples lives a misery. Police know who they are YET can't touch them YET these scum have mugged 5 pensionners???

So what do u suggest Scoobynutta to stop the rise in violent/petty crime???? Give the Chav a holiday and a free Mcdonald voucher? no we need a deterrent to stop the maggots from inbreeding on these estates thus creating more delinquent Trisha watching Chavs. BAN Liddles and ALdi! No more Windsors World of Chav shoes!! Tracksuits only allowed for Sportsday not going to post office for giros then onto Wilkinsons for their Chav nappies. CHAVS need to be given the snip or frankly we are doomed!!!!!

Oh what fabulously short memories you have. We saw no degradation in Health Service, yoof behaviour, amount of litter etc before this lot get in....did we....well of course we f**kin did...grow up!!!!

I really miss the good old days when mates of mine were battered in the back of police vans for being black, finding jobs was actually hard work, and my mother was treated like **** for being a single parent...if we had no political correctness, then this would still be happening....oh, sorry I forgot, our BNP supporting brethren want us to go back there.

Flamesuit zipped, and ready !

I'll second that.

My evidence to slipping standards is school. When I started Senior school I went nowhere near the non-uniform sixth formers, I stayed well out their way as to me they were pretty much adults, like the teachers were.

7 years later when I was a sixth former we all had the first and second year kids calling us w&nker, w&nker signs, spitting, swearing etc.

If anybody thinks that this country isn't declining then they are really, really, REALLY stupid (and blind).

'finding jobs was actually hard work, and my mother was treated like **** for being a single parent...if we had no political correctness, then this would still be happening....oh, sorry I forgot, our BNP supporting brethren want us to go back there.'

So you think giving single parents tax payers money for breeding like rabbits is great?
As for finding work, half our Chavvie dolies can't be arsed to get a job and want to live off their giro for life whilst robbing us at the sametime.
And WTF has BNP got to do with it?

Agreed about parenting but about Thatcher.......she was very strong on values in the home as a true Conservative always is. If people use her politics as an excuse to act like peasants thats not Thatchers fault.

And Popeye, I'm in no position to come out with policies that will imporve this country, unlike people who advocate bringing back national service.

Government is all about complex management, and unfortunatly with only nearly 3,000 posts to my scoobynet account I can't really fathom macro political environments. Maybe you should ask know-it-alls on here with 30,000 posts and no life.

And to blame it all on Thatcher is the most ignorant, blinkered, rose tinted comment of all. Typical New Labour thinking though - Deny responsibility.

It is "an" example from "my" experience.

To real it all off would be masses of text.

Standards are dropping, fact.

However, if you feel that they are not....that is your opinion and I shall not debate it.

Well i'd be VERY interested to see whether the majority of the electorate would be willing to pay for it. To assume that they'd shun it on the basis of cost is very presumptious, imo.

"Militarization" is a sound-byte scare-mongering word. As i said earlier, it doesn't need to be militarily-based. Respect and discipline are BASIC attributes, attributes that OUR parents instilled into us, attributes that today's parents seem to think is somebody else's problem.

Whether it makes a difference to crime figures is debatable, but al least it's worth a try, no? Takling to kids has ZERO effect. We need ACTIONS, not just words.

Care to tell me what the specific policies Thatcher came out with for family life? Other than of course the highest unemployment rates this country has ever seen. Which destroyed many families and pushed a lot of people into poverty, which funnily enough is a big reason for crime. I'd like to see comparitive crime figures for Blair versus Thatcher. And any economic figures that you like

Totally agree, go past any senior school gate when they come out, they are meant to be in school uniform, but most look like right scruffs, shirts hanging out and ties undone. You'll see 12-13 year olds light up a ciggie as soon as they step through the gates. Not to mention the language either....
