If it has to look sporty it'd have to be the RX8 from your original choices (it's the only one with 4-ish seats)
Anyhow, enjoy whatever you get!
s4 is a bit pricy isnt it
I have nothing but praise for the A3S3........ excellent all round...... 3.2 litre should be nice but I suspect quite heavy and Thirsty and they dont really look that sporty
Did you think of the Evo8

Tried an RX8 at the weekend. WOuld echo most of the comments on here, but TBH it didn't feel that special.
Certainly the high revving nature of the rotary engine takes a bit of getting used to, as does the intrusive traction control. Apparently, the dealer's insurance is voided if you turn it off on a test drive... Mmm....
In summary, it felt decent - far nicer than a TT - but lacked that wow factor that something like an Evo 8 possesses....

Is now a good time to admit that I'm thinking of buying my girlfriend a TT? Worse still that I might drive it sometimes.
The thing is we have about 12K to spend on a new(to us) car and were looking at various boring diesel warm hatches (like the Skabia). An autotrader showed up various 225bhp TT Coupes with what seemed like decent provenance. These had the bonus (for us) of being LHD useful as we live on the south coast near a ferry port and are forever visiting France. Looking at the spec, Xenons, leather, climate, bose sounds etc these look like great VFM. After a session at jabbasport it should be making at least 250bhp. Insurance is just £170 more than a Skabia VRS.
Who knows maybe she'll end up with a car that's as fast as my Impreza.
If anyone can see any flaws in my logic (apart from the fact that I'll look a bit fey when driving it myself) then let me know!
Sorry for the thread hijack, but you could perhaps save some wedge yourself buying one of these out of date fashion accessories.

JDM sounds good, BUT a friend bought a TT left hooker from germany before they were available here, he had big problems selling it on again and this was when there were still huge waiting lists for them, SO just keep that in mind that you will have to take a big hit to pass it on again.
Have you thought about a leon cupra r or 20vt, could jabba sport that as well

good brakes, classy interieor and doesnt have the negative image that a TT does and good residuals.

im no fan of the rx-8, the maintenance and high revving driving style do not suit women imho. And with the amount that of gone bang in the US that will eventually hurt residuals over here, I certainly wouldnt entertain one outside the 3 year warranty period, which again will hurt residuals
as said before the 350z is a 2 seater.
the new alfa gt with the v6 is a peach, the build quality is very good now much better than their image tarnishes them with, but you will get hit hard on depreciation if you keep it for a while, short term with the coupe you may get away with it as there is a waiting list, and once people start seeing them on the road they will want one.

something you may not of thought of, Must be one of the ultimate sporty wifes cars. (in this price range :-) ) Not driven one but the c230 kompressor with the evo pack should fit the bill. Will hold its value well too. She might not be up for a total sports car and this could be a good comprimise.

does it have to be new ? could you ditch the kids alltogether and get her a boxster ?

Thought about ditching the kids, but we have grown to like them...so for the moment has to be a four seater.
Cheers for the other comments.

S4 out of the price range.
She hates my WRX so she would hate even more an Evo.

Cupra too boring.
off topic I know but
the sub 20K M5's I've looked at are money pits with high mileage. My brother bought one for 24K with low mileage etc and he's stil spent literally £1000's running the car. It easts oil, has a pretty poor range when you stretch it's legs but is an awesome car.
His wife drives it no problem but it is a very expensive car to run. Think ImprezaX2 for running costs!
The LHD resale value on the TT doesn't matter that much to me as we plan to keep it for a while. Should be able to chop it in at a dealers even if they take the p*ss on the trade in- I hope.

Ahhh - just reread my posts as I wondered what was going on!! - I meant Civic Type R versus the Integra Type R......... in laymans terms........ I owned a Civic Type R and they were unrefined, noisy on the motorway and woefully lacking in any Torque or power even in the Vtec zone. The Integra Type R is more roomy, more classy, has another 30bhp.....so would be a better buy to compare against Scoobs, Mazda's etc
Others
Cupra - hmm - looked at this also before buying the Scoob - woefully inadequate rear vision - the rear windows seem so small and the rear pillars huge that you just dont seem to be able to see much out of the rear (very similar to the old Vauxhall Calibre's(medallion mans car!))
All the choices are effectively at the back of Evo Mag - is a case of going through them and deciding which to test drive
If I sold the new Scoob now I wouldn't really have a clue which one to buy, as nothing appears to offer the same value for money, especially when you get a 10% discount off the retail price........

I'm with Kieran_Burns here - get a mans car with a V8 engine not a girly w@nker engine or a hairdressers TT. It's big there is no denying that but expensive ? £28650 for a fully loaded Holden, surely that compares quite well to the prices of the others and you get nearly 30 mpg

Holdens just too big and expensive, but thanks for the advise.
I have been toying with the idea of a three year old Alpina B10 3.3 or and Audi S6, she likes the image of both but, i'm running out of time, and not sure where they are for sale.

Back to the 350Z. I've owned mine since new (Sept 02) driving it in Japan for 6 months before I moved back here. Absolutely awesome car for the money, so forget the passengers - this is clearly the best-styled, affordable driver's car around. I work for Nissan and have fully converted it to UK-spec.
I'm advertising it this week as I need an estate now - it could be yours for less than 21K ! (Only done 11,000 mls - de-limited to 160mph - more power than Uk-spec cars). Contact me if you want to know more...

TT-not if you paid me
350z more power to get into trouble if not used to rwd sports cars and not 4 seater.
So the RX8 has got to be the choice.
Shouldnt have the probs the rx7 has.
and it has 4 seats and laps around the same as a 350z.
I would have the Nissan if it was for me though.

Hiya mate, have test drove all 3 in Germany, personally i'd go for the 350Z, V6 power is v.good, 280bhp as standard, high quality interior, thinkin of gettin one myself at the end of the year, only 2 flaws tho-
1. Limited to 155mph, had it to 154mph on the test drive
and
2. Couldnt find the traction control button to turn it off!
The RX8 was the high powered (231bhp) version and had it the wet unfotunately and even with the traction control on still spun up to 3rd! Nice though, had it for the day and got a mate who's 6foot 6, in the back seat! Have to rev hard to get anything out of it and seems like its gonna blow!
The TT was the 225bhp version and the best thing was the interior, didn't handle too well, seemed a bit skittish on the slightest of bends, may of been the German roads though! Gearbox also seemed a bit clunky!
There is one other choice to go for, Alfa 156 3.2 GTA, not very many over here, TT's are everywhere now though!
Don't know if this helps but good luck with your decision! Paul

Personally I'd forget about passengers, rip out all seats except one
and then throw all my lottery winnings into tuning it

Here are a couple of my favs:
This Z33 did 360km/h (222mph!!!) before it was written off
...The wrecked image was something special (shame I can't find at the mo.) but Jun were touring Japan with the wreckage

This is the next Jun Z3 Project being worked on. They are hoping to achieve an outrageous top speed of 400km/h!!!....never!??
