Let's be honest, most people have invalidated their warranty anyway so it;s a not a major factor in peoples decision making when buying a car.
I still cannot believe you can get a new WRX for £15,500 that is criminal, Vauxhall Vectras cost more than that!

This is only good news. It is competition to the franchised UK dealer network, which is a good thing.
Look at the recent history of Subaru pricing: we've seen price cuts every year. You could argue that that is down to the cost of parallel (not grey) imports being so much cheaper than the UK pricing for exactly the same car.
I bought my MY00 from Holland, and sold it for a fair price to both parties. I bought an 03 WRX from a UK Dealer, because I couldn't get the discounts by importing to make it worthwhile. The price in the EU has dropped again, therefore it's worth importing again.
How shall I say this? Subaru UK are thinking that they are adding enough value to justify the extra 3k for buying from a franchised dealer. People must believe it, otherwise they wouldn't be selling...

The price is 15.5K plus £400 for cat1 alarm plus £300 for pates and road tax plus £150 for delivery.
So £16350 and im sure there will be more knowing these places.
I just bought a 04 wrx at motorpoint for £17000 on the road full uk spec and 3 years subaru warranty.
Admiral insurance also treat it as a UK car so not classed as an import.
Also i will not be trading it in 3 years from now will just sell private so might get a better deal, prices are mad just now.

Incidently I was under the impression that the motorpoint car was from Cyprus and there was an issue with rust proofing ? I maybe wrong though.

I've got a brand new MY2004 WRX 5-door from Motorpoint (collected it on 16/07/04) in WR Blue.
It is definitely a MY2004. List was £17000. To this you have to add £390 for the same Sigma alarm that UK Dealers fit (Motorpoint can supply and fit it for you). You also have to add road tax (£160) and a preparation charge (£62) and number plates (£25).
Total= £17637
From a dealer that would have been £20750 (metallic paint option).
Saving of £3113.
The car came from Malta, but is exactly the same as a UK car.
It is also covered by a 3-year pan-european Subaru warranty (not 2 years). The only trick is that the car has to be registered with Subaru UK for the warranty to be vaild. For this you need an orginal sales invoice from the eurpoean dealer it was brought from. I'm sorting this out at the moment (with Motorpoint) and it shouldn't be a problem, just a few phone calls.
I like saving money!

One word of warning.
My import car from Motorpoint needed its 1000 mile checkup service just recently.
I found my local dealer (Culverwells in Robertbridge, East Sussex) didn't want to touch the car until it was registered with Subaru UK.
Contacted another dealer (Gatwick Subaru, West Sussex) and they couldn't be more helpful. They did the service and told me that they'd had various people coming to them from Culverwells because they weren't pleased with the service.
You've gotta look after your customers!! So sod Culverwells, they've lost my business for ever, even when the car is registered with Subaru UK!

You can be sure you will at the very least lose this £500 when you come to sell.

Has anyone actually confirmed whether Motorpoint cars are UK spec even once you've put on the locking wheel nuts, alarm, rust proofing etc. If I found a lack of side airbags on a quick look then what else is missing?

You can "rustproof" LOL, your own car for about £25. It's only a can of poxy underseal for gawds sake.
I notice that the people who are "against" Motorpoint cars are the people who paid £20k for a WRX from a UK dealer and whose cars are now worth the same as a brand new Motorpoint car.

I didnt pay anywhere near £20K for my Silver MY04WRX (UK) and I got the free servicing. I have nothing against Motorpoint or any other retailer. I just think some people are so obsessed with 'saving money' they can't see that sometimes they are not.

No one is disputing the fact that Euro imports are worth less than UK models, but the price difference 1 to 2yrs down the road would never be as high as the purchase price difference.
E.g That bloke may sell his UK PPP'd car for £16k but a Euro equivalent would never sell for £13k more like £15k

The UK RETAIL prices are been quoted but no dealer sells them for that. A new UK WRX can be bought for less than £19 K with the free servicing which is worth about £1K which brings the real price to under £18 K. Some one has already said they paid £17.6 K for an import and you have already admited they are worth £1k less used. In this case it makes the import more expensive.

This is not just restricted to cars, take a look on ebay, there are hundreds of people everyday buying goods because they assume they must be cheap, but actually you can buy them cheaper at your local retailer.

My gut feeling is that I would rather take the savings now rather than gamble that my UK list price wasn't artificially inflated and due a 'revision' down. But if any UK dealers want to make me a reasonable offer I'm willing to take their views onboard... I'll hopefully be ordering my WRX within the next four weeks.

Each to there own I say, lets just agree no one is right or wrong.
To me knowing my car is fully approved for use in the UK, being able to walk into any Subaru dealer in the UK with a problem and get it resolved without issue under warranty. Knowing any dealer will be happy to take it in part ex at its market value etc etc is worth any extra premium.
They may not be important to others, but to me it enhances the whole car owning experience.
