Question

I use Motorpoint for my company vehicles. Never had a problem, no hassels at all. If you have got enough money to buy a Subaru your not stupid!!! Fill in the forms, register the car! Takes 45 mins max, you save a stack of cash. Dealers service the cars and undertake warrenty. Its the law. Its all so simple and you save a packet. If you plan to keep the vehicle two or three years you will not loose much extra come sales time.

I keep hearing hassel hassel hassel. its amazing how simple people need things to be! Everyone will be spoon fed at this rate.

I take it you like motorpoint then ? !!

To be honest when I spoke to them before I bought mine I decided within 10 seconds I would never buy a car from them. When I spend that much money on a car I at least want it to feel like they care, I got the 'do you want it or not' attitude.

I have also yet to have it proved to me that an imported WRX works out any cheaper. Anyone ?

Can't Motorpoint service it for you then ? If everyone had your attidude there would be no dealers left to take your car to.

its all down to dealers. I have just bought an a new o4 sti ppp to be delivered in sept from a main dealer (Ashtons in Ashburton Devon). The dealer offered over book on my wrx o3, made me feel i was wanted, the service dept are excellent and when i look at some import prices and add the add ons i thinks it comes down to not a lot for the extra peace of mind i have. Had experience of another dealer who would have made me buy an import cos they were so crap! Ashtons stand out as a good dealer ( and no i dont work there)!!!

Thumbs up

I've had my 04 wrx for 8weeks now and its was supplied by the main dealer for the simple reason he gave me £3k more for my trade in than motorpoint and with the 3 yrs free servicing and recovery it was the better option.I know i could have sold the old scoob private but to be honest i couldn't be arsed with joyriders coming to my house,so this way no hassle. If i didnt have the trade in then motorpoint would have been maybe more attractive. The dealers know about these car supermarkets and most are making an effort to compete with them.

AR,

No my WRX does not have side airbags. It is from Malta.

To clear matters up, I have spoken to Motorpoint at great length since reading the first 4 pages of this thread. With the prem pack I have a warranty underwritten by Motorpoint for 3 years.

I can either, service the car at any VAT registered garage every 6000 miles using genuine Subaru parts or service as per Subaru recommendations. Can someone please tell me what these are. Is it true I need a service at 1000 miles? Why?

People on here are so obsessed with slagging off Motorpoint when at the end of the day you save 3-4k on a UK spec, plus the fact that they offered me 1.5k more than Subaru for my MY98 turbo than Subaru -Abergele did and sold me a brand new WRX for £17000. What is the big deal over underseal? I can have my local garage do that for £60!!!

I can only speak as I find, but I have to say that Motorpoint have been fine with me- even had the so-called crap aftersales dept phone me back on three occasions to give me information.

Also, this business with a 3 year pan European warranty. The car is sold to Motorpoint from Malta without a Subaru warranty hence the reason they offer their own 3 yr Warranty.

I would appreciate some advice on recommended servicing intervals though.

Cheers.

UK cars need servicing every 12 months OR 10000 miles. ( I think)

Unless it's a WR1, in which case it has to have an additional service every 5000 miles.

the 1000 mile service is a MUST !!

Basically the oil that is in the engine at new is a running in oil IIRC

get the oil & filter changed to semi synthetic, change it at 10000 miles again & put in fully synthetic

I take it you have ran it in for the 1st 1000 miles or have you ragged it silly

Forgot to mention the 1000 mile service!

You have to keep the revs down below 4000 during that period.

I do not have any emotion toward Motorpoint Like/Dislike. I'm trying to make money and be succesful in life, I'm doing a good job.

The fact is there are people (like my father) who have different needs when buying a car. The need to feel wanted, the need to feel its the right way based on what they are comfortable with and past experience. I grab a deal, if Motorpoint say take it or leave it and it makes finacial sense, I'll take.

Times change, you have to move with what is happening in the World market and Europe. And its true, dealers would have to change if everyone was like me. We would all get a better deal.

On the point of Subaru, 30,000 miles of free service does not add up to much and unless you mean to pass the car on very quickly or trade in you will not loose much. Not every buyer is educated either, most dont ask if its a UK car etc.

But at the end of the day as long as your happy with your buying decision why worry! You pay your money and its your choice.

ScoobyPugh,
You are wrong on this one, sounds like motorpoint has sold you a pre may04 one as i have just bought a new 04wrx from motorpoint and it has a 3 year subaru warranty.
No need for a motorpoint warranty at £700, sounds like you have been had i would phone them up and question this.

Gordon.

ScoobyPugh

Thanks for the answer on the side airbags.

Watch your oil consumption in the 1st 5k miles as they can drink!

Don't panic Mr Mannering! I have kept it below 4000 revs for the first 1000miles ( god how long were those first 1000 miles) .

What are the service intervals after 1000 miles?

UKscoobGS,

How much did you pay for your car??

I have questioned motorpoint and they say mine definitely did not come with a subaru warranty.

Never mind!

What about buying from Litchfield Imports or David Hendry Cars. They appear to be offering UK Spec cars with 3 years Subaru warranty for similar prices.

The next one for a UK car (if that makes any difference?) is at 10000 miles or 12 months although you may be wise to have the oil and filter changed mid service at say 5000 miles or every 6 months.

Hope that helps,

Chris

No, but there would be a lot more independents, and from personal experience of 4 years servicing by my main dealer I wouldn't shed a tear. Subaru specialists charge a lot less and general consensus on here is that they give better service, I would defo use one if they were nearer.

Why should you or I care about the dealers for sure they dont care about us. Their cars new and old are over priced and their servicing of my car has at times been shoddy including forgetting to reconnect electrics and charging me for items that they quite plainly hadnt fitted!!

The local MOT station couldnt believe what the main dealers had done to my car, so please dont tell me that specialists like Xtremescoobies, Scoobyclinic or TSL would do worse. Of the specialists I've only used TSL and they were far more courteous/friendly and professional than my dealer (more importantly they did a good job). Clearly not all main dealers are going to be bad, I just couldnt recommend mine.

i actually ordered one from motorpoint (over the phone), but a few days later cancelled the order because the paperwork was not as I expected, and based on their trade in price it made sense for me to goto a main dealer. getting my money (deposit) back from the was a nightmare, despite my rights under the cooling off period. I did eventually get it back, after visiting the Glasgow dealer, but their Derby dealer was the location that sold me the car. As soon as I made noises about backing out, they stopped taking my calls, ignored emails, the sales manager pretended to be on holiday, and the General Manager was always too busy to talk.

i look at it as a narrow escape. imagine I'd bought from them, and something was wrong with the car when I collected it. the hassle I had just getting my 1k back. i just don't think its worth it. I've since heard experiences from friends and colleagues who've used motorpoint, and it just doesnt sound like a place I'd ever recommend to anyone.

as for comments about the service not being worth including. you get 4 services... 1000, 10000, 20000, 30000. Thats about 700 quid off the price of the car. and given that a UK car can be had for 19000, only 2k more than motorpoint, then if u factor in this saving on services, the UK car is only 1300 more expensive. its not a lot more for piece of mind. particularly as there is still some nervousness about import resale values. my mate cannot shift his 1 yr old clio 172 bought from motorpoint for example.

in my case, the main dealer offered me a trade in 3k more than motorpoint, so it was a no brainer.
