The problem is the positioning of the fuel pickup in the tank - out the hairpin the fuel is mainly sitting in the opposite side of the tank to the pickup which runs the pump dry.
A fuel pressure gauge will tell you it is happening a short while before the car complains majorly. You can get a little bit of detonation from this so it is worth avoiding repeatedly over many track days.
Some uprated fuel pumps can even make the situation worse if you use the supplied pick up that comes with them which is sometimes shorter.
How much fuel did you have when it was surging?

I used to get fuel surge when just over quarter tank left on the Sti8. Hopefully not see this on the Evo as it's a baffled tank which is meant to stop this from happening....well see on the 10th!!
Stephen...you sound totally bitten by the bug mate. Planning track mods already

Anyone manage to get any video of me in my Elise? Was in the Orange S1 with black stripes. my 1st trackday....awesome. I have the bug now shame my wallet doesnt feel the same way!! Managed to spin out on cold tyres...that and I was running the dreaded Pzeros which are really poor on the elise. Was a nice place to spin ( the right had blind bend just after duffus) and there was no need for the dirt trap.
Think im going to sort my tyres and suspension out before my next trackday.
Gareth.

Glad you all enjoyed the day
Fuel surge - just keep the fuel above 1/3 tank and you'll be fine, or fit a swirl pot from Powerstation, or get the optional STi fuel pump/filter/pickup assembly (may as well fit the uprated fuel pump at the same time).
Most people just learn to live with it and drive around it, I generally just ease on the throttle in 2nd coming out of the hairpin, until I'm in 3rd, by which time everything has settled down.
Hope to see you all there again on our next event on the 11th September. This event is likely to be very busy from what I've heard (lots of people who couldn't make it on Saturday are booking up), so I'd book up now to make sure of your place! http://shop.sidc.co.uk
Cheers

Only 46 and a half days to go............
I also experienced fuel surge (not nice and not good for the heart!!)
That was with 1/2 tank left, and I had already had an uprated fuel pump fitted.
