For sentimental reasons I would add the Cairngorms and the area around Aviemore, the scenery is stunning, and it's where I was wed

Basically though anywhere north of Birmingham, or west of Bristol is well worth a visit. The rest is just flat, boring & full of rude southerners

Right, back from our little jaunt – still in the UK, but finished driving around.
In short, we spent a week walking and camping in the Lake District – bought a guide book and OS map – and loved it. REALLY lucky with the weather, dry but not scorching. Shot up to Edinburgh, walked around the city for a day, and back to the Lakes for a couple of days – again, bad planning, it just ended up that way. Edinburgh is clearly a lovely city; we expect to be back and “do” it properly in the future.
Thanks for all your suggestions, and a few little invites – I’m embarrassed to say that, as we only found one point to log on (and didn’t want to spend a holiday glued to the computer), I met NO-ONE
, mainly as I was usually driving through their area before I even thought of them! Planning in advance / communications is clearly not my strong point. Saw floods of scoobs, wondered about talking to the drivers but felt I might come across as a bit of an oddball.
Might go into more detail in future, but hate typing on Dad’s weird keyboard…
