Police Camera Acting
#32
Pete, just a thought. Perhaps you should write an open letter to the local council asking that after a year of the policy being in place the figures for this scheme are published. Ask whom will take responsibility for the waste of money if the cameras have no effect on the death toll. They ought to be accountable to someone...

Oh, and another thing: I assume that the ABD has been made aware of this "road improvement"?

Its well beyond taking responsibility, in Chelmsford. We have recently had traffic lights installed on one half of a main roundabout into the town centre. Quite why no one knows, but we had to endure weeks of road works whilst they installed them and the sensor loops in the road.
Within the first two weeks, there were three accidents on the roundabout. There had not been one in the previous two years.
Guess what. The lights all have nice orange padded bags on them now.
Come the day brother...
Oh another thing (I'm really buzzing now) the carpark next to the station has just had its prices hiked by 30% so that it is cheaper (from where?) to get the bus into town than it is to drive and park. Two points... first, who in my local council has shares in First Group PLC who run all the local busses, second, do they really think that people will take the cheaper option and walk half a mile to the bus stop, at 6.30am, in the hoofing rain on a January morning?
Taxing the motorist is taxing freedom of movement, and I for one have had enough.

Those 'witless Yanks' have a concern for your afterlife.
It's either an eternity in heaven where you were created to be, with the God who created us, or an eternity in hell.
If you can't be bothered to spend some time checking out 'eternity vs 70 yrs on earth' please don't condemn people who are trying to very politely point you in the right direction. If they are wrong - so what - you've been irritated by the odd John 3.16 sign in the background of a sporting event. If they are right and it prompts you to do a bit of investigation you could spend eternity in heaven instead of in hell. "It is given unto man once to die and after that the judgement". - another quote can't remember the verse just now!

Mick,
As I said before re John 3;16, I find witless buffoons trying to advertise their particular religious brand a tad annoying.
And riddle me this one Batman - why is it that the most uptight, intolerant and humourless people tend to be born-agains, who are prone to telling people that they're going to burn in Hell?

Mick,
I don't want to get into a theological discussion, and this *definately isn't* the place. However, by definition, if I don't believe in God, then I don't believe in heaven and hell. I would tell someone holding up a placard telling me to watch out for Nessie to use their time more productively in exactly the same way.

Mick,
Thanks for your concern for my eternal soul... I'm afraid I've sacrificed too many chickens to get to heaven... but don't worry, I'll pass your comments on to my covern and see if any of the other twelve require saving.
BTW: Do you guys work on commission? I mean, do you get an even more heavenly place in heaven if you manage to snare a few more souls whilst on this celestial plain?
Anyway, as pointed out before, this really isn't the place for this. Maybe the non-scooby related thread would be better?

As told by Billy Connolly (who I actually believe may have been the Second Coming):
There was a completely mad Irish Catholic Priest who was eventually taken away and locked up, but as they were dragging him out of church he was still preaching his fire and brimstone....
(Cue wild Irish accent)
"You'll all burn in Hell, you'll be standin in de filth of Hell and you'll be saying "We didn't know", and de filth of Hell will be rising up your legs and de fire of Hell will be licking at your bodies, and you'll be shouting "We didn't know", and de worms of Hell will be creeping up your legs and the demons of Hell will be flying at you and biting your body, and you'll be screaming "But we didn't know!", and God will be looking down on you from Heaven and He'll say "Well you ****ing know now!!"

(Last off topic post, honest)
Being Righteous (as opposed to self-righteous) is less about paying lip service to your beliefs and more about acting on them.
So how many of you have read and acted on the "spare a moment..." thread in this folder?

Told to me a religous mate...
Bloke drives to Beachy Head, to jump off and end it all. He's been out of work for months, lost his house, his car (a Scooby?) etc.
He stands at the edge and takes big breath, then leaps off. As he does, he realises he has made a terrible mistake and lunges back at the cliff face. His hands miraculously find a tree root and he comes to rest dangling 200 feet above the beach.
After calming himself down, he realises what a serious predicament he is now in. As loud as he can he shouts "Is anybody there?" towards the top of the cliff. A celestial voice relies saying "Yes my son, I am listening". Shaken he says "Who are you?". "I am God, the creator of all" comes the reply. "Can you help me?" asks the man. "Yes, my son. Release your grip and I will save you."
After 20 seconds thinking about this the man shouts "Is anybody else there?"

Well it's all got too deep for me.
Vaguely back on thread, I used to work with someone whose son had got one of the highest marks of all time at the police diving school.
She said that he'd become a complete nightmare, drove everywhere like a lunatic.
Maybe they should include psychometric tests i.e. if you do well are you going to think you're a driving god or not. You do get the impression sometimes that the point of the chases is for the police driver to prove they can outdrive the criminal rather than protect the public interest.
Cheers

The police have a diving school? What is this country coming to? Hawaii five-o?
We had a video session with the N Yorks police Impreza drivers at the NW bash at Wildings in Kendal (very interesting thanks chaps). However, it was food for thought that a motor biker hurtling through Settle at speeds over 90 (?) almost certainly wouldn't have done that if old Bill wasn't chasing.
I appreciate that chases are supposed to be broken off if life and limb are at risk, but is a chase really necessary at all once the reg number is noted? Can't a Batman style homing dart be fired at things to avoid such pursuits if the vehicle has been nicked?

I suppose there is the simple fact that the reg no simply refers them to the registered owner... if it's nicked, you won't see the driver again... if it's not nicked, the owner may choose the report it stolen if s/he gets away from the police without being clearly identified as driving the car.
Of course, any police using this argument to justify dangerous high speed pursuits are simply confirming the apparent trend towards making arrests/statistics a higher priority than public safety.
