lol, you live in leeds ffs!
go to bradford one saturday, ring in advance and ask for nasar. ask if there is anyway you can hear some of the avi bsm range in a vehicle and tell him I sent you.
he is very accomodating.
you'll even get the same discount I do!
I haven't heard the subs but thats another thing I would like to try.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Looks like it'll be a Genesis Profile Two and the Alpine CDA-9833R (which, despite its cost and gimmicky is the model I seem to have been drooling over), plus the Dynaudio 240GT fronts and JL XR525CS rears. Total cost £several-times-more-than-intended, but it'd better sound good!
Now, someone please tell me I don't need a sub as well...

Just dont listen to a car that has a sub in it ...... you'll start crying........
Adam
How much amplication do these Speakers need - didnt know they were linked to Monitor - I have Monitor speakers at home and the sound is very nice...... then again they were rather expensive......but hey I've spent far more on the Scoob system!!
If they can be amped up with say 80wrms each side I'm tempted to ditch my subs and just put some 6*9's in the rear........... running off a 4 channel Genesis........ its not a step in the right direction but carrying so much weight in the boot does not do wonders for the Subaru's handling abilities..........

I used to have a sub in previous cars, so I'm well aware of what they sound like That said I'm also aware of the amount of boot space they take up, and given that the STI's seats don't fold down I think I'll need all the space I can get.

subs imho are heavy bulky crap used to create volume to mask an underperforming front end.
get yourself a decent front end with mid basses which drop to if lucky 60Hz and you might not worry about not having a sub.
It will never replace a sub, but if like me you dont want the reduced boot space, the extra weight and the crap flying around in the boot, combined with the embarassment factor of kitting your boot out as if you were 17 again, then it is more than ok.
For this the AVI mids are great.
Steve, monitor speakers are a type of speaker used in sound labs to listen to what is being recorded. they are usually reference quality in a small box, but monitor these days tends to refer to the size rather than the make.
They are not linked with the speaker company monitor audio to whom you are referring.
AVI monitor speakers have their own reputation.
