Cool

You really should steer away from any fad diets like Atkins. They cause healthe problems, and in the short term can cause extremely undesirable effects (high protein diets cause severe bad breath!)

Despite peoples excuses about metabolism and 'gland problems' it really is a vey simple equation. If you take in more than you burn you will put on weight and vice versa.

The only way to lose weight effectively and keep it off is to eat a little less and do a little more. Do no change what you are eating (unless it is incredibly unhealthy at the moment).

It takes longer, but is far more effective.

Simple innit?

What's the recommended rate for weight loss? A kilo/2lb per week I seem to recall. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Atkins really does work for blokes, and very quick

There is some health evidence for, some against

I've used it and am still lowish carb, but more balanced, lost 20lbs in around 5 weeks, weight is off and staying off total lost 198lbs down to 172lbs

Just had a medical, blood pressure lower, total cholestrol good, ldl good hdl good (whatever they mean)

Drink pints of gin and tonic (two measures of gin) instead of lager (much lower carbs) during diet

I now eat most things, all vegs, salad things , most fruits, thin chips, fat chips, crinkly chips etc.

Don't eat wheat and other grains including rice.

Drink what I wish.

(stinky breath is just a bonus )

Dude man, like TelBoy says, it doesn't sound like you're taking this very seriously at all.. Losing weight is hard to begin with, but once you get going it's not too bad at all.

You do, however, need to cut out your **** food and your beer (or you wont lose as much weight)!

I've recently started going to the gym again after having gained some weight back, and at first it is mindnumbingly boring, but after a while you get used to it!

My tip to you is: Join a bloody gym, and force yourself to go!

Dont take this advice about a gym. I would bet money that if you started going you would give it up within 2 months, and gyms know this so sign you up for alot longer than that to begin with!

Stop eating ****, eat lots of tasty sandwiches instead.....

Quick fix to get rid of weight is a week or 2 on juice fasting.
Buy yourself a juicer (not a blender) and live on fruit juices and water for a week or 2, expect to loose about a stone every 5 days or so.

It's an extreeme way to loose it and requires total comitment, it will work too, but no point in doing if if your gonna put it straight back on again.

you should probably make it clear just so everyone knows and doesn't make a mistake thinking they're losing fat by doing that:

"expect to loose about a stone every 5 days or so"

should be:

"expect to loose about a stone of lean mass every 5 days or so"

if its for no other reason than loosing weight for a short time i would suggest "salt tablets" they'll get the weight of ya but dont take for long as they are not good for you long term, but are great for getting rid of weight quick

What Milo said.

You'll loose fat, dead tissue and muscle, the reserves in your liver, all the toxins in your body, your stomach will shrink.
You wont loose any good muscle on a juice fast and you will feel bloddy great unless you drink juiced tomatoes!!
(Some people will say you will have to exersise to build up your muscles when on a fast, you dont, you wont loose any good muscle tissue)

of course you lose good muscle. there is no "good" and "bad" muscle. just lean mass and fat.

on this juice only diet you are depriving your body of essential amino acids. this is the ONLY thing you really need to live in terms of nutrition - so your body will obtain these acids by catabolising muscle (yes, the "good" kind).

if anything, your body will try to survive by storing MORE fat. the body is made to survive - period.

i cant begin to describe the damage you are doing to your body by this alleged "detoxing".

suggesting otherwise is just wrong - there is no way you will win an argument in which you're stating you don't need amino acids to live and that your body won't break down "good" muscle to compensate.

All the amino acids you body needs and cant produce naturaly can be found in Bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers, Potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots corn, cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, okra, peas, summer squash and kale an many other fruits or vegetables.

Agree with milo. The proportion of muscle mass loss to fat mass loss when you fast in this way is 60% to 40%.

not in anywhere close to the quantities required, nor in complete amounts in many cases.

an entire banana for instance, contains about 1 gram of protein, of which miniscule amounts of it are essential amino acids.

if the body doesn't get the full range of essential amino acids in one go - it turns to your muscle for them. it does not store a few of them from a specific food that gives some aminos and then waits a few hours for a steak or some chicken to complete the range. that's why good quantities of foods with the full range of amino acids are required, and anything less results in catabolism.

the kind of quantity of the foods you've listed you'd need to juice up in order to give enough essential aminos would result in taking in a gross calorie surplus and copious amounts of simple sugars.
