You were cheering Portugal becuse of your inferiority complex.
It's not a complex, you are inferior!

How can the comments of the Portugese commentators be irrelevant to you, when you base the entire fact you supported their side on the English commentators attitudes??

Well I can only comment on the commentry from the English commentators as i only heard their views. If i havent heard the portugese commentry i can hardly comment on that can i. I didnt base my entire fact on that either, it does play a part in it though. The media factors in my decision to support other teams too.

For instance looking at the sun website today and the headlines are England were robbed. How were they robbed ??? Terry CLEARLY infringes the keeper, but no because its England they were robbed. Obviously these people need to learn they cant bend the rules to suit them because they lost fair and square. Its always someone elses fault. Beckham was hard done by because the penalty spot sucked, but the portugese used the same penalty spot.

Simple fact is the elitism displayed when england play any sport, they think they should win and then they spit the dummy and make excuses when they lose. "we would have won but a big bad ref spoiled it", "Rooney got injured or we would have won", "jesus if i had remembered to feed my cat before i left for the tournament i would have been more focused on the game and we would have won" . Another senario i read, if that goal was allowed then England would have be though to the next round for sure. ????. So there was no way portugal could have equalised again in the dying seconds?? No England just take for granted that the game would have be over.

Get over the fact that England in not the best at everything and just try losing gracefully.

There are always 2 sides to a story. Perhaps you were supporting the most abusive, arrogant, elitist side of the whole tournament.

I think this quote fine from the best-ever Scottish film just about sums you lot up -

Tommy: Doesn't it make you proud to be Scottish?
Mark "Rent-boy" Renton: It's ****E being Scottish! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fu*king Earth! The most wretched miserable servile pathetic trash that was ever shat on civilization. Some people hate the English. I don't. They're just *******. We, on the other hand, are colonized by *******. Can't even find a decent culture to get colonized by. We're ruled by effete ********. It's a ****e state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and all the fresh air in the world won't make any fu*king difference!

RRB, I agree your dislike is against the commentators etc, but can't help thinking its a more genreal dislike towards the nation. Wanting Portugal to win and finding it hard to admit the ref gave us some bad decisions really sums it up. Grow up, the nation is too small to go through life thinking like that. Its probably something thats been passed down to you from parents etc...

If you watched a Scotland game, the same English commentators would be very pro Scotland.

Mad Dr, good comments...

Im off now, as I think its all been said.

MB

PS - I lived in Shetland for many years as a youngster, and got a fair bit of harrasment from most of the kids for being English, until I developed a mild scottish accent :P Again, stems from the parents, and not having the intellignce of an open mind...

Umm you could be right about the more general dislike of the nation, but i doubt it. As said in a previous post I support an english football team and have english friends. As for growing up thats a bit lame, i think ive been pretty constructive in what i have said, i have not once rubbed it in the face of the english on here that they lost. I could have been childish and posted all sorts of remarks. What are you blabbering about the nation being to small to go through life like that ???. Do you think me supposedly hating the english nation is going to seriously affect the outcome of my life.

You make too many assumptions without even thinking about it. I dont think anything was passed from my parents as my father is not british, my mother lived in england for years.

I think you need stop blabbering sh!te, people are entitled to their own opinions

bl**dy hell. some of you are really scraping the barrel here with your "humour".

i have to tell you, what you should be singing is "they're going home".

you see, they're is a compression of two words: they and are.

there means something different entirely. it should be used in the context of, for example, "that ignorant person over there".

i would go on to advise on the use (or failure to use) apostrophes, but i think that you have probably had enough excitement for one night.

best regards.

I think the argument about the English constantly bringing up '66' from a Scot is a little thin, especially when your National anthem regails in a single battle won in a lost war 690 years ago..

Time to move on?

It's because of our attitude that (as a proud englishman) i'm almost glad we are out....we didn't play well after the France game, we didn't deserve to win the tourny, so best to go out now, cos my blood pressure can't take it....have to say though the closest excuse would be the ref, he was appalling, but it is still just an excuse....world cup qualifyer in Sept anyone

However, i should also comment (as a proud englishman) that if you scots hate us and want nothing to do with us (personally i'd say shame, i've had some great holidays in Scotland) then that's fine, we'll **** off and leave you to your own devices....if we could just have all those years of subsidies back we'll be on our way.....

I deleted my words quite a few times before I arrived at the finished text to be posted, because it what I had originally written just didn't sum up the strength of feeling. I hope this does :

You are a a bit of an idiot. You cannot insult a whole nation and then deny it and just pretend it was only a laugh and that you didn't really know what you were doing. "Ich habe es nicht bewusst" has already been proven as a rather weak defence. Ouwe rukker.

There, I feel much better now.

What oil?

Under international law the maritime borders between two countries (beyond costal waters) follow an extension of the land borders. As the border between England and Scotland is heading north-east when it meets the coast, all the oil is legally English and you lot get to stay in your 'ginger-whinger' poor house.

Don't worry though, you won't have to repay any of the subsidies we have given you over the centuries.

Cool 10/10 for the Coulster..

Well I've just read the 5 pages of 'discussion' and came to the conclusion that it's all Sh1te, fair play, us Scots do hate the English, some with passion, if not for their (<---not 'your' please note ) attitude but the entire approach, commentators included by the way, during any competition.

eg/ Ronney = Pele II, have I missed something? Ok the young lad hadn't stuck a foot wrong most of the comp (No pun intened) but to call him Pele II! Get a grip.

Another point to get over is probably the English supporters, why oh why are they always in trouble? Wales, Ireland & Scotland all go abroad too to follow there team so how is it's always when the English travel away that there's grief for the host nation? Minority maybe but still no excuse.

As for the reet mongs who read this and start to bring up spelling mistakes, punctuation and oil! Jeez..give yourself a shake man, it's not even worth sticking into the argument, sorry....meant discussion.

Feel free to discuss but a spade will always be a spade.
