1/ Oi loikes armadillos!! You are quite patronising - You make me grumpy. Anyway that aside, on my telly the English people who rioted in that one town during that non football incident, were not in the main, draped in england flags! Talk about spouting plop to make a point!! Some I'm sure were adorned by the three lions but they were holiday makers, NOT anything to do with football... Our 40000+ football fans have bar a handful of minor arrests be exemplory.


2/ Up in the north (I can only talk for Greater Manchester and Merseyside here), No-one uses the word "chav" - it's just really sad. As in my previous post I was trying to insinuate that there must be some "chav" in all of us, but I found "Another one with comprehension problems". To me the word is an almost snobbish sweeping generalisation that can be used by geeks when trying to look down their nose at people. Coming from a "middleish background" and having some "chav" elements I can see both sides and well, as I said before its a sad sad word.

Is it any wonder that I'm patronising when you cannot grasp a simple point? I have no idea what incident you're referring to but I'm simply saying that there is a general perception that the England flag has been hijacked by football hooligans. Why can't you understand that I'm making a distinction between between hooligans and fans and why do you assume that I'm lumping the two together when I'm not. Do you understand that?

Furthermore, you seem to keep referring to recent behaviour in Portugal, totally ignoring any violence in the UK which if you bothered to check you would find several examples of over the last couple of weeks. As I've already said, the perception is not just confined to recent hooliganism - there is a long history of it associated with football so you cannot expect to convince me or anyone else just on recent behaviour.

If you can't be bothered to read and try to comprehend other people's comments, then don't bother replying.

Fairey - I made my point in my first contribution to this thread and felt your over zealous attempt to demean my contribution was out of order. Now we find ourselves detracting from the original thread (apologies thread starter).

How are we detracting from the thread? Wish initially talked about Pikey flags and I'm simply trying to explain how that perception has come about.

Clearly, you can't comprehend that and continuously try to demean me and others for the use of the word, Chav by referring to geeks and now your lame attempt at a put down - Fairey and yet you're the one accusing me of demeaning you - pot calling kettle black. You've called a previous post of mine "complete and utter tripe" which you've failed to substantiate and you insist I'm demeaning you?

I think you need to read the whole thread again and then maybe you'll understand what I'm saying, not what you believe I'm saying.

It's funny reading this and other posts about the flags how everyone agrees that hooligans have hijacked the st. georges cross and that this is a minority but the very same thread (or even post in some cases) 'generalises' that all those that would dare to display a flag or wear an england strip are a chav, I mean WTF???????

I did have a flag on my car and read all this bollocks thinking whats the problem? Yes I've got a scoob and no I'm not a 'chav' (which as mentioned above is some lame little schoolboy term), I havent got it on there now, not because england lost but because I did alot of motorway miles last weekend and didnt want it blowing off down the motorway. It really fvcks me off that being english I cant support my 'national' team! and yes I do root on the english cricket team and tiger tim in wimbledon!!!!
