Dissappointed - we didn't play well against 12 men (11 Portugese + 1 Swiss ) but was robbed having a perfectly good goal disallowed and even in open play nearly every decision went against us
Every game the Portugese have played the Ref has been biased towards them being the host nation.

Aye I know Bravo, but it still needs sorted m8. This is something that has been going on for decades, not as if it's sumthing new.

Video replays should be bought in for the next tournament, no question. It's too much of a lottery as to if you'll get a good ref or not.

However we did play poorly second half. Why in heck did'nt we play like we did in the last few mins of extra time in normal time?

It's all to do with siege mentality, and as has been shown time and time again teams that try and 'hunker down' for long periods of time end up losing. So I don't blame the ref 100%, it was more down to us trying to use a tactic that has proven to be flawed.

So I don't blame the ref 100%
I agree we did not play well but if you look back over the game the Ref was keen on flashing yellow cards at our challenges but not equally so at the opposition. Nigh on every decision went against us down to the disallowed goal - In the other Portugese games the Ref's have been biased towards them.

Just been reported on football366, that Rooney has broken a meta-tarsel and will be out for a couple of months at least.

Some people hate the English. I don't. They're just *******. We, on the other hand, are colonized by *******. Can't even find a decent culture to get colonized by. We're ruled by effete ********. It's a ****e state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and all the fresh air in the world won't make any fu*king difference!

I'm not going to go around every forum pointing this out, so I'll leave this as my last post on the matter:

Terry was offside from the original header. Whether or not there was a foul on the goalkeeper after this is immaterial.

Before anyone starts saying offside wasn't given - it doesn't matter, in your ideal world where the video evidence showed there was little contact on the keeper the same video evidence would show the offside.

On the night England did not play well and rather than blame the ref for going out I'd suggest looking at the team that didn't play on the night (Cole excepted). If England had played well they could have beaten Portugal, but on the night they simply did not perform.

what is it with the England team?? they have an abundence of top notch players who prove day in day out in the premiership that they can produce the goods but when it comes to big tournaments they go to ratsh1t!!!!!!!!
don't they practice penalties??? are they that **** sure that the match will not go that far??
to get paid nigh on 70k a week and hoof a ball over the bar is a disgrace!!!!!!!
then u have Eriksson complaining about the state of the penalty spot!!!! FFS the Portugese did'nt seem to have a problem.

not good to see the only British contingent go out in such a deja vu manner but thems the breaks i suppose

Yes we were robbed by a succession of appallingly biased refereeing descisions, but also we were robbed by:
A team whose midfield (especially Gerrard) were content to give the ball away needlessly at every opportunity for most of the first, and all of the second half.
And a manager who, despite a vast amount of evidence to the contrary, STILL believes he's managing a team defensively good enough to play Italian (boring) style.

We will never succeed in a major international competition until we realise one goal is never enough, and that it's not usually our defence that the other team are scared of Owen was showing signs that he was back until Rooney went off, then the supply dried up.

PS To all you United fans out there, perhaps you now have a glimpse of what it's been like supporting Liverpool under Houllier

Firstly, Portugal were a country mile better than England.

For THAT goal, Terry was offside when the original header hit the bar so he was interfering, also, and be truthful here, if it was the other end you would be screaming for a foul on James.

In extra time, Rui Costa had a shot which didnt make it to the goal, the ball fell to Ronaldo who was flagged offside whenn replays showed he wasnt. Any comment made about that? NO

Just before Rui Costa scored it looked awfully like Portugal scored through Simao (i think). Did Motty keep referring to that? Are there any threads mentioning that? NO

Face it, you are not the world (or Euro) beaters that your media would have you believe.

Sure, a strong squad but lacking any real skill or quality.

Had you beaten Portugal and given away possession like that to France or Czechs you would have had a drubbing on your hands.

i doubt anyone is disputing who was the better side - however, i would say the referee motioned to the English players that there was a push leading up to the disallowed goal. please explain to me where that so called push occured? oh and by the way, we weren't playing the Czechs or the French!

The individual parts are fine, just they are all bolted together wrong.

Bit like taking the engine block from a Ferrari, the Pistons from a Porsche, the Cyclinder heads from a Masserati and the Turbo from a Scoob ( ) and wonder why the damn thing doesn't work very well.

This thread has been reported to the moderators several times by two people who have taken offense at racist language.

There's a few ripe ripostes in here, so some posts may disappear, but one man's innocently meant comment is another man's racist incitement.

It is up to the reader to determine whether any term of race is used in a perjorative manner, or in a way that just points out where someone comes from. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt...

We're not here to baby-sit the nursery, you're all big boys and girls, but please could I ask you to consider if some one could take your post in the wrong way and read it as racism before you click the "post" button?

Cheers,
Nick.

I don't support football or follow it, though I do watch England in their endeavours in skiing, football, cricket, rugby etc.

Watching the game & I don't understand the offside rule etc though it did strike me why Neville kept holding onto the oppositions shirt in our 6 yard box & why when Campbell scored that goal, Terry felt it necessary to rest his hand on the goalie.

Bravo, don't sweat it
Let's keep this on topic (well, maybe not exactly on the topic of the subject as that'll raise a few eyebrows) but consider if anything posted could remotely be taken in the wrong way - even if it's not meant that way! It's a lot easier to say something in a pub with a grin/joke/whatever than it is to commit to writing.

Anyhow, normal service now resumed - cheers folks.
Nick.
