miles per gallon
WRX 03 PPP have covered 18k and have averaged 21 mpg over this period. car always gets between 200 to 245 mpg on a full tank. Air con always off, only ever used Optimax, the living daylights are thrashed from the vehicle on a regular basis!!
Anyone getting 30 mpg on a regular basis should change to an Austin Alegro 1500HLE five speed !!! LOL
Regards
John

Hi
Okay, i can tell you what, with patience, anticipation and a fairly clear motorway, you can get from your standard Subaru WRX (new shape 01). i do log down my mpg's when i fill up(sad but true) but the worse first.....
8 mpg on track
11mpg when trying very very hard to catch up somebody on a meet (lots of 2nd gear use i remember, using full revs, changing down from 3rd at high revs to keep on full boost)
15 when driving very fast on a meet
20 when driving in the slowest group on a meet
20-25 in urban driving depending on how many longish drives
31mpg at 75 mph for 148 miles on motorway
30-35 scenic touring
and........
41.3 driving at 50mph for 172 miles on motorway!
these are fact, not just 'i got xxx miles out of a tank'. these are fill up to fill up. 344 miles is the most i have got out of a tank, that was 31.1 mpg, 11.06 gallons, 50.26 litres.
it can be done. i could prove it to you. any normal imprezza turbo can get over 35mpg
Cheers
Michael

Sometimes I use optimax / SUL, only notice difference in running at below 3k, no difference in mpg.
04 WRX no ppp
I think somewhat closer to the truth is anyone who isn't getting at least 25mpg - preferably somewhere closer to 30 - on a regular basis (trackdays not included!
) should either get their car looked at, or learn how to drive
. You'd be amazed at how much fuel you can save at the same time as driving quickly - and better - by using the dynamics & handling of the car rather than just the accelerator. It's far more amusing as well

I calculate that as 22.24 mpg.
1 imperial gallon (as used in the UK) = 4.54609188 litres.
1 US gallon is smaller (about 3.79 litres)
You've arrived at the figure of 18.52 by converting from litres to US gallons instead of imperial gallons.
Reason to be cheerful now

I'm quite happy to offend people about their driving if they can't drive
Going round corners faster uses less fuel if you use the ability of the car to take as much speed as possible into & through the corner, leading to requiring less power at/past the apex.
Breaking before the corner, dithering through it & slamming your foot to the floor once out the other side is something I'd hope would be grown out of whilest still driving a pantsmobile, or at least should be reserved for things such as an Audi which can't go round corners. The method is slow, clumsy, awkward, makes the driver look like a *** & incidently uses masses of fuel.
If you've bought the car, so you may as well use it properly...

And yes I accept, for corners - I do brake before them and accelerate out of them - I beleive most people (even you) probably do this - my car does not go round corners as fast as it goes in a straight line. (unless you drive at 20 all the time
Standard MY01 WRX. Worst average 23MPG; best 29.6MPG (between fillings). Usual is 26/27 when a mix of short journeys and various types of longer distance.
Worst was about 50% mileage on short or urban type journeys.
Best was just shy of 30MPG comprising long drive down A303 then when in Devon/Dorset lots of hills, towns, villages, rural lanes etc. and quite a few fast boost interludes on main roads.
Confident that if I was to do just main road and keep boost to minimum, I could get well over 30MPG.

I find that the (cornering) limit normally is so far beyond the realms of sensible on-road use (100+ down b-roads may be fun, but is stupid) that anything other than controlled (i.e. not WOT or anywhere near it) acceleration out of corners - except on-track - is largely not needed. I find that overtaking is about the only time I need to use full-power, and then it's rare, as a controlled, flowing movement usually ends up being quicker than having the car squirming around under acceleration when on the wrong side of the road

Update :-
Last week, drove like a tit just locally, got 220 from 48l = 20.8mpg
This week, had a mway run to Anglesey Circuit, kept under 70 by traffic and then following mate with trailer, 80-90 on return, got 339.5m
from 51l = 30.25mpg
