My new Breitling GMT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Old thread, but thought I'd dig it up and add a few pics of my tiny collection...

Planning to add a Navitimer to the family early next year. A standard one would be nice, but might consider a Cosmonaut if I could get used to reading it...

Hi Paul,
No the blue one is the Chrono Avenger. Very similar to the Seawolf in case size and design.
Chrono Avenger has the chrono functions and extra push pieces.
The Avenger Seawolf doesn't, but does have a much thicker crystal and helium release valve for it's 3000M water resistance.
Incidentally, the blue buffalo strap has since been replaced with a much nicer looking blue croc strap.
The other one in the pics is the B-1.
Yours looks good on the strap, although my preference on a shiney SS case is a matching SS bracelet as per your first pic.
Still, it's nice to swap 'em around from time to time

its a chronometre automatic. it originally had a leather strap when i bought it 3.5 years ago and a replacement leather was £150 and replacement ssteel was £600. On the basis it cost me 1800 in the first place and i wanted a ssteel one i didnt go with a genuine breitling one in the end
Cool, someone dragged up a watch thread.
Come on anymore, for anymore.
PS. Salsa, thats an old photo, can we have some new ones, and maybe one of the clasp, please.
PPS. If you bought your Rolex new, is there any chance you have kept the perspex ring that clips onto the bezel. If by chance you have, and you dont want it there is a good home for here, and a few beer tokens for your trouble. cheers.

Thanks for that Salsa.
When they (Daytona's) are new the case and shoulders are covered in a film, a bit like cling film but thicker and fitted. And they have a perspexs clip on cover for the bezel.....Honest.

can anyone tell me if breitling is a certified chronometer. i know that omegas are. do more expensive watches keep better time or is the price just reflecting the use of precious stones or rare earth metals?
cheers
big sinky

All current Breitling models (quartz and mechanical) are COSC certified which makes them all chronometers.
(Bear in mind that the tests and requirements for passing COSC differ between quartz and mechanical. Typically quartz watches are more accurate anyway, so their COSC tests require much greater accuracy results to pass.)
As to your other question, I guess it's a combination of brand value, desirability, workmanship, complications, materials, rarity etc etc
Timekeeping also plays a part, but as a cheap plastic quartz watch will often keep better time than an expensive hand finished mechanical, it isn't necessarily the main reason to buy an expensive one.

Rich...personally i think you're better off with the strap in pic, rather than the croc one.
Just my opinion.
As for timekeeping, does anyone really need a watch thats 100% accurate anyway. If i need to adjust mine every couple of weeks or so,does it matter????

Hmm - not sure.
I think the strap in the pic is a standard calf one. I went from a buffalo (similar to calf but slightly more texture to it) to a croc on my blue CA (pictured on the previous page) and in my opinion it was a vast improvement.
However, it depends on what suits the watch, so I might agree with your opinion... will have to check them out in the flesh. Cheers

Phil - good point!
When you adjust the time on an automatic (specifically Breitling)is it okay to wind the hands back as well as forward.I know there are rules about setting up the watch, but what i mean is just very small adjustments,ie a couple of minutes.
Bubba po - being boring is a skill I'm proud of

Paul - probably okay (I know I do what you've described on my CA, which is an auto, with no ill effect). However, I'm not absolutely certain. If yoza's still here, maybe he can answer this better. Or visit TimeZone and ask the question there...

This is a automatic chrono with date window.
The instructions specifically state that you shouldn't adjust the date or allow any backwards setting of the hands during the hours of 8pm and 2am, as this is the period where the date gradually turns to the next day, so it's bad for the movement.
I'd interpret this as meaning, at least for my watch, that some backward minute hand adjustment is okay at all other times.

I guess if you stick to the 8pm-2am rule you should be fine.
cheers.
