If you are a multi-cultural Co IMO you should be encouraging the celebration of an employees nationality, not discouraging it surely?
I mean FFS at the UN ALL the flags of the member states are flying - not all flags taken down incase one offends.
This is Euro 2004, a football event, people are supporting their team, nothing else. At our workplace we have a Spanish guy willing his team to win. How anyone can suggest that his Spannish flag on top of his monitor may offend some ethnic groups I do not know.
The only arguement they may have is that the Scots, Irish and the Welsh may take offence because they are constantly reminded that they can't support their team at this event

I'm not sure why you would want to fly a SGC in Wales especially as they failed to qualify for the footie (it's just asking for some eggs to be thrown, and after all is that not where all eggs come from ). I do however understand a corporate 'brand' logic in asking people not to customise company vans. However if it is your own motor its is YOUR choice and anyone offended in YOUR country would be an ar$e!
I have always thought it highly tacky and insensitive to wave your flag in other people's countries - VERY Chav - unless you are actually at a sporting event of course. It's just a bit 'impolite' in my view, but if you are told not to in your OWN country then that deserves to be treated with contempt.
I used to think it so great when England started to use THEIR SGC for their sporting events that did not involve UK. Waving an Union Jack in Scotland v England was always so absurd. Shame there is such an air of the Chav to it now - claim it back decent people, and keep it off the Ayia Napa balconies!!!

this makes sense....anone in a company car with a flag has just dragged that companys image to chav land.
this has nowt to do with the flag...its about what the flag has come to represent- at worst thugs and at best chavs.

I am the only Brit in my team at work and on my desk I have a St George Cross and a Union Flag on little poles ontop of my monitor.
I have a 5x3 St George flag stuck on the wall behind me which is also behind the German I sit next to an I have a St Geoge Cross on apole with the 4 lions on it and England written accross the Red stripe. So I have 4 flags in my workspace and none of the Germans are offended by it, there is also not one German flag in the whole office, thee are other people with little flags of their nation on monitors all over the place.
Our office in Roseville CA has national flags from all the countries we have offices in hanging from teh ceiling. The UK has gone nuts!!!!!!!

Showing the St George Cross has nothing to do with being racist - most English churches fly it in preference to the Union Flag - are they all racist too?

Not least as Chip says he's in Wales. In this case, banning the English flag is because it's going to cause offence to the ethnic majority, rather than minority.
Besides, if you have an original of that memo on headed paper, the Sun would probably pay you 5-10 grand for a copy, and the company's name would be mud.
At least in England. In Wales they'd probably give it a tax rebate
Chip, I'm calling your bluff (and I'll fully apologise if wrong). Scan it for us?

Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing this as a concerned member of the ENGLISH Community.
I have read today that a memo from your company has been sent out stating that ENGLAND flags are not allowed to be shown at work or on any of your company vehicles.
My concern is this, you are operating a company in ENGLAND, you employ ENGLISH staff, you pay them in ENGLISH pounds, why on earth would you not allow them to show their support for the ENGLAND football team?
I am hoping that this is a hoax and in fact someone is pulling my leg, if not can you tell me why you feel that your employee' should not be showing their support for the country that keeps you in business.
I look forward to your prompt reply.
Regards and thanks in anticipation.
