Thats my point why should you have to eat your hat, ask a question then make an informed comment.

Then everybody doesn't have to slag people off

Have to say I didn't know all 911 turbo's were 4WD

My governor has a 996 convertable 2wd and its dam fast but he still takes mine out for a bit of fun

Wink TYRES!!!

You lads I dunno!!!!
Look the tyres that are fitted to the Evo are worth a good few seconds trust me as I have driven one on the road.
The WR1 has normal road tyres on so theres a start.
I cannot understand how it was compared time wise with the STI 8???
If I had been driving it I reckon it would have been a little closer but I would have wanted the tyres.
And I would have wound the bloody diff back aswell for sure.
What setting was the diff in the Evo????
Stig is a muppet driver if you ask me.

New 911 turbo cabs and coupes are 4WD. Not aware of 2WD myself but never say never.

it's over 1.5 seconds quicker!

Porsche are reknowed for be conservative with thier figures (read very conservative)

Prodrive? - well NO-ONE has matched them (or even got that close to them) yet.

If this gets posted on a Porsche forum they will laugh as much as when someone posts a Nova Vs STi that sticks with him...

This is pure entertainent....

Edcase 1.5 seconds not a lot in the real world? I had a Calibra Turbo once that did 0-60 in about 6 seconds dead - I had the pleasure of racing a F355 which was about 4.5 seconds 0-60. We both went for it & both gave it some stick & the difference was huge...

1.5 seconds on a 1/4 mile (real conditions) is the difference between a pretty standard P1/STi & the fastest Impreza in the UK....

Thats almost as comical a statement as Gangsta....

Nearly in the same league as the bloke on here who beat a F575M

Keep it up boys - it's making the day at work much easier ;

Exactly what tyres are fitted to the Evo 8 MRFQ320 and WR1 as standard?

I just cant believe people on here actually take note of what them pr1cks at TG say. I thought this was a Subaru site not an 11 year olds classroom. FFS if you want to read objective journalism, thats real.......buy a car mag. TG is about your average car driver not enthusiasts.

I neither know nor care whether the WR1 is what its claimed to be but i'm sure the car can be driven expertly in the right hands........not some mutant 7' tall ponce who is so far up his own @rse. The programme is sh1te if you want REAL and objective views go to the right places for your information. Like one of the lads say........it's entertainment, thats all.

*sigh* my point has been well and truly missed. nobody is trying to say the wr1 is as fast as a 911 turbo. Nobody would be that stupid, given the performance figures. That's not the point I'm making.

Maybe I misunderstood the original claim then?...
I raced a brand new Porsche Turbo on Monday night (with a witness) and was completely equal with him through all gears

Was the Porsche running on 3 wheels and a space saver?

No - to be honest I didnt

I assume they did then?

Should the next question be, how many times can you do it before the clutch/gearbox/diff/engine gives up the ghost on a full throttle launch?

i think at this point it would be fair to ask gangsta to post some more info on the encounter ( no gangsta i dont want to continue the argument) then maybe what ed is trying to say will be bourne out.

ie maybe the 911 driver didnt rag the **** of his car like gangsta did,

maybe it was a rolling start with gangsta in second and 911 in third,

maybe a gear change was fluffed,

gangsta was certainly trying and maybe he was full throttle upshifting (i know i would be)

real world things change dramatically . Even i realise you cant compare clinical (not cynical) manufacturers figures to what you'll get from the lights outside the local kebab shop

however the main point is still a wr1 keeping up with a 911 turbo - WOW

Hawkeye, thanks, thats all I'm trying to say. I don't even know gangsta, but I've experienced similar things on the road myself and know that, although a car may be much faster on paper, in real world situations you can still appear as quick and have fun with drivers of much more expensive and powerful exotica.

here is a quote from mike wood of prodrive on another thread:

Our 03MY STi Demo proved quicker than lots of Ferraris and Lambo's at Goodwood. Doesn't mean it's better/faster or whatever, just means that I was more able to exploit the performance than the other drivers who were less confident in their somewhat more expensive and challenging cars.

Ed

hawk,
It seems to me ppl on here gave you a hard time over your car a while ago. If I recall correctly some fairly harsh matter of fact comments. Its seems the age old saga of being bullied turns you into a bully . Edcase has made some very good points which I personal agree with having experienced on both sides of the fence. And at the end of the day there are too many unknowns. I've had some 'fun' with cars that should have destroyed me and haven't! OK, I haven't posted it on here and put my self into a position to get flamed. I'm sure most ppl on here can think of a number of situations this has happened. If no one wants to believe him fine. If your finding it hard to believe him and want to know more, ask more questions. To straight away flame is all very school playground stuff imho

In case people were wondering, the Porsche GT2 is RWD and turbocharged...450 or 460 BHP. The 996 Turbo is AWD and 420 as standard I think, the X50 pack takes it to 450. Oh, and Scoobies are 'better' than Evo's as roadcars, I've voted that way with my wallet time after time

Talking

Hawkeye & others.....

If Gangsta says he kept up with a Porker he did. I know the guy and although a little protective about his new purchase he certainly wouldn't come on here largin it up if he didn't do exactly what he claimed.

Edcase is spot on when he mentioned reactions on the real road and how the slightest mistake can make so so much difference. I've minced a few motors who I know should of creamed me but for a split second they screwed up and I benefited. That doesn't mean I have the fastest car far from it.
Maybe Gangsta should have put a few more details up rather than the scant information he did but guys should you not ask a few more questions before you nuke the bloke?

i stopped counting a long time ago the number of "supercars" i would pass on a trackday in my Impreza. I have a nice bit of footage from my last trackday in the car at Oulton passing everything including a Radical SR3 and a full race 360 modena used in the Pirelli ferrari chalange. It doesnt mean anything of real value to compare cars though, just good fun, and these cars are great fun if you can drive them properly.

i did indeed get flamed about 2 years ago but that isnt the reason with regard to gangsta, i would indeed like him to post more details regarding the event.....

i would therefore say that being bullied turns you into a bully is a bit harsh i was saying what i felt GOBSMACKED at the way people have taken it

Agreed.

The way it read though, in an out & out performance race he kept up.

Which, all things being equal, is highly unlikelywhich I think pretty much everyone is agreed on

Over to 'the smurf'

Most people are happier putting their £30k Rice Rockets into the trees than their £90K german exotica.

Likewise John, I have some great footage (also at Oulton) of me passing a v8 europcar on slicks. It was a cold november day and the track was greasy but not wet, and he just couldn't get enough power down out of the bends or carry as much speed into them

On the other hand I am just editing some footage from the hottest day of last year at an evening session at Donno where I have Exiges, megabusas and radicals coming past me every few seconds like a swarm of bees

It was still well in the 30's at 6pm, my poor turbo was having none of it!

With all that extra weight I was only able to do a couple 'hot' laps (scuse the pun) before backing off as the edges of the toyo's were literally melting

50PSI in the tyres would have stopped that.

Well they did say that Subarus are for boys

Also, someone do the maths of how far a car travels in one second even at 90mph, I can assure you its more than 1 or 2 car lengths, let alone a bumper
