I would fit bigger anti-roll bars and stiffer mounts and bushes with an anti-lift kit and I reckon that would cure most of the handling problems.
The proof sits on my drive in classic form and it handles like a dream. Cost about £300. Previous understeer removed so for a price Stig can borrow mine.
Still don't think it would beat the Porsche - but the Evo could be vulnerable !
