most people are bl**dy glad that the emergency services and armed forces are there when they happen to need tham. i suppose the problem is that most people don't *need* the armed forces on a regular basis. i think it would help to have forces exercises that were accessible to "ordinary" people.

i can imagine the scene in UB's house:
Queen "We are the champions" is blaring out of the stereo. UB is doing heavy air guitar, astride the couch, dressed only in a pair of boxer shorts.

I just hope that it has been made clear to him that he and the ******* clowns who did it can consider themselves responsible for the possible deaths of others. All in the name of journalistic sensationalism and the opportunity to sell a few more copies of the toilet-paper that is the Mirror.

Exactly mate - see my earlier post. My mate has just come Back from serving out there and he cannot believe the way the press are painting the picture of events in Iraq. He nearly burst a blood vessel at the BBC news coverage - as mentioned in my previous post most Iraqia are happy that the coalition are there.
Our soldiers are out there carrying out their orders, fighting for Queen and country and the press are basically stabbing them in the back - they're just scum plain and simple. Round the f**king lot of them up and take them to Iraq so they can give us a first hand report of being beaten at the hands of Sadr's militia or maybe even being beheaded.

this is not about some alledged photos the americans may or may not have it is about the FAKE PICTURES published in a daily newspaper that have lead to civil unrest and placed our service men in more danger than they were facing already.
are you not making your way to eastbourne?

iirc there was major "civil unrest" before the publication of the mirror photos. other "non fake" photos (featuring US troops) had already been uncovered and published. the mirror photos merely made a bad situation worse. nick nerg wasn't a british soldier. he was an american civilian.
get the connection?

The Mirror should use the same amount of page area to apologies and admit they were wrong as they did to publish this filth.
A small column saying we were tricked and are the victims here is not enough.
edit: it is front page, but all they say is "Sorry.. we were hoaxed"... ah poor mirror was hoaxed was it????

If you want the tabloids to disappear STOP buying their papers.
I took this stance many years ago due to so called journalism about an incident I was close too (whilst in the Army), as usual total untruths about what actually happened, which caused distress to friends and family.

On the subject of Journo's;
Jon Snow from Channel four posts an email each day (reprinted in the Guardian I think). This is a bit from a couple of weeks ago.
"The inescapable fact is that these photographs feel remarkably pristine and dreadfully obvious. The clean highly Iraqi t-shirt, the brand new mx rifle that doesn't look as if it's ever seen active service, the uniforms likewise. If the photographs are genuine, British forces have a particularly good laundry and the Iraqi victim appears to have few of the reflexes you would expect to kick in, in the face of such aggression."
I just love the bit "particularly good laundry"
Finally from last nights email;
"From the wrong truck, the wrong rifle to the clean floor, the spotless tee shirt and the shaved legs of the supposed victim - is the evidence and testimony accompanying the hoax also fake? The consequences of their publication are inclaculable."
These ba$t@rds should not be let off so easily!

Best quote of the days was from the Lancashire Regiments top brass something like
"its time to weigh the ego of a tabloid editor against the life of a soldier"
neatly sums it up in my opinion.
There may already have been pictures in circulation from america but the high quality neatly graphical images from the Mirror are perfect for posters and t shirts and it was these images (in high qaulity) pasted to the desecrated commonwealth graves in lebanon they will serve as recruiting posters for decades to come
Every man and his dog knew the images were fishy the moment they set eyes on them
So how come a very experienced editor who must be presented with hundreds if not thousands of photoshopped dodgy images designed to make a fast buck couldnt.
I'll tell you why because the moment the piggy eyed arrogant t**t set eyes on them he saw nothing but pound signs and political expediency.
Private eye reports that sodier "c" and his mates were told if they could back there story up with pictures it would be worth £20,000 and hey presto scant hours later they returned with the dodgy photo's.
this issue has NOTHING whatever to do with any actual abuse or comparison to governments hypocrisy or "highlighting the real issues" (f****ing pathetic argument from the Mirror) or even the digusting pictures from america
Its about one man willing to inflame a highly dangerous unstable region where his own countrymen are at immeadiate risk to further his own ends.
Who then pretends to hide behind a grossly thin veil of piety and innocence to save his own pitiful worthless behind.
Being sacked is the very least that should happen to him

A nice point was made in the (broadsheet) press, in response to Piers' plea that "OK, maybe the photos themselves were fake, but they still were representative of behaviour, so they were OK by me." The response was akin to "This is the equivalent of the police planting drugs in a known criminal's house just so they can jail him for five years for other stuff which they can't prove." Good call.
As for the tabloids, what do you mean, stop buying them? I'd have to start first.

I also work for Trinity Mirror plc but fortunately not the bit that publishes the Mirror. Even so - feel ashamed working for the company right now. The "Mirror" bit has definitely dragged down what was once the good name of Trinity.

I did STOP buying the tabloids many years ago. I now spend about four minutes scanning their pages in my local village newsagent before placing them back on the bottom shelf. My daily read now happens to be a local county newspaper. If EVERYONE took my approach to the daily rags then they would go bust and go out of circulation, which after all, would be no bad thing, the news they offer is trite.
