Stefan, I know. But F1 cars seem to manage on high profile tyres. Wouldn't the money be better spent on suspension and brakes?
And the ride on 18s isn't brilliant, but most of all I'd be worried about bending them on a pot-hole. Then maybe that's just me as I seem to be magnetically drawn to pot-holes and chunks of wood in the road
Richard.

I've just fitted 215 35 x18 tyres and they do looked very stretched, the next set will be 225 and I might try with a 40 profiles. I could always raise the rear ride height slightly if they rub. I never have rear passengers because of the cage so loading won't be an issue.

Yeah, but F1 is a different thing completely. The rely on high profiles for suspension movement. You can't realy compare the two. Compare touring cars or tarmac rally cars and you'll see none of them use high profile tyres.
Mike Wood already advised me that 18"s would require a suspension overhaul, but I'd already planned to have some P1 suspension fitted to my car before I decided to upgrade the wheels. Even the P1 was designed to be shipped with 18's, so there is plenty of merit to be had from the large alloys.
If large profiles were the way to go we'd all have 15" alloys and 65 profile tyres. I've also bent a 17" rim on a 45 profile, so no alloy is 100% safe. The Oz wheels are stronger and lighter than my current wheels, so I've no made the decision that lightly.
Just have to make sure I avoid as many pot-holes as possible.
