Just like I won't be shooting my fuel tank to prove that one out Works in the movies tho....
a little while back they actually done this test with the mobile phone on 5th gear, they put loads and loads of petrol in a caravan, pouring it about and leaving loads of open drums in there too, then they put about 6 mobile phones in there, and then went and stood a few hundred yards away and began ringing all 6 phones at once, absolutley *** all happened;they then run a piece of cable into the caravan from where they were standing, then one of the blokes put a nylon coat on and started to rub himself on the coat,he then touched the end of the cable causing a small static spark which blew the caravan to pieces,so you should be more aware of wot you wear in a petrol station rather than if you phone is swithed off....

Aren't the panels made from that new alloy developed by an aluminium company for Jag? Also part of Ford

Thought it was probably the same stuff, I can vaguely remember reading something about it when the jag was launched. Who do you work for then, the Ally company, or the shell manufacturers?

Therefore, as Esso can tell you and the poor bugger who had his crotch fried there is the possibility of flammable concentrations occurring whilst filling your car with petrol.

If he got his crotch fried that would imply that the phone was in his pocket, which I would count as a confined/non-ventilated area.

That was indeed the case but it was only one of three examples. Of the other two, one resulted in burns to the face and chest and the other to the front of the torso.

There have been more cases in Europe but I don't have the details.
