I have now posted downloadable maps of Alton and written directions for ‘co-pilots’ on http://www.altonevents.co.uk/upcoming/subaru_impreza_meet.asp - so no excuse for getting lost on Sunday 12th ! However, our little market town could be overwhelmed with up to 150 Scoobies arriving from 09:00 onwards, so please co-operate with the following:-

To avoid queues building up at the control point at the entrance to the High St, we are splitting the area in which the Scoobies will be parked into two zones. The names on the Scoobynet list will be split as follows

- 1 to 50 follow directions on maps to Zone A (Market Sq and High St)
- 51 + follow directions to Zone B (Ladyplace car park, which has a capacity of 180)

(If 50 cars don't fill Zone A, we will re-direct some out of the back of the car park to top up.)

The 2 zones are interconnected –Ladyplace car park opens onto the Market Sq. and is also connected to the High St. by an alleyway and the High St is connected to the Market Sq. by Cross & Pillory Lane. So you will all be able to circulate easily and get to talk to each other.

Cars in the High St and Market Sq. will be parked herring-bone and parallel to the pavement, depending on the width of the road – please follow the directions of the marshals and remember we have to maintain a 3m. gap through the closed roads at all times to allow emergency vehicle access. If we don’t, we could be ‘closed down.’


If groups want to park together, the best place is in the Ladyplace car park, where you can ask marshals to allocate a number of adjacent spaces for you and your mates.


Cruising’ – we will create an exit out of Market Sq. on the far side through the bollards into Market St/Lenten St and down Amery Hill, which is part of the one-way system. If you are parked in the Sq., use this exit but come back in through the High St entrance. Obey the one-way system, even though some of the roads are closed, so that we get a sensible flow of traffic – and it will also avoid any bent bodywork! There will be lots of curious members of the public wandering around, not to mention your own and your mates’ kids – so please be careful!

A lot of people live above the shops and there is a complex of old peoples’ flats next to Ladyplace car park, so don’t turn up the hi-fi’s and or over-rev engines. Please be on your best behaviour, as a large crowd of curious locals is expected - let’s show them that Scooby owners are a responsible lot!

My advice is to park in Swan Hotel's car park, accessed from Drayman's Way, on Saturday night (more secure). You will only be a 100m. from the event on Sunday but if you want to park up with the rest of the Scoobs, you'll need to move your car into High St/Market Sq or Ladyplace car park on Sunday morning. There will be plenty of space so have a lie in if you want!

To anyone who might be thinking of jumping the gun and leaving their car in the Market Sq or High St overnight - DON'T! ....even if it's still there the next morning, it's wheels probaby won't be or it'll be covered in diced carrots! We may be a quiet little market town but when the pubs chuck out on a Sat. night, it's no different from anywhere else!

Sorry to disappoint you Mart but we we're not selling reserved seats and we can't guarantee just because you're in 1-50 on the list that you'll be in Zone A - it's just a way of trying to split the traffic.

Think of it m8 - up to 150 Scoobies arriving in a small market town within the space of about an hour! We just want to get you off the roads into town and parked asap with minimum disruption and without attracting the attention of the law! So - no tantrums please! It doesn't really matter where you're parked, just have a great day.

PS Bring the cameras, guys! You won't see this many Scoobies together again for a while!
