simply do something charitable, you never know you might enjoy it
I like to do charitable things and support charities with monthly donations etc.

However I go for animals over humans every time I'm afraid. They are a lot more deserving and unable to help themselves.

I do think a lot of the real spongers out there should be shot (I'm talking mainly about 'our own' now but will quite happily add any 'asylum seekers' who are here just to take the p1ss to that group too), Not those who actually want work and can't find it, just those who make a lifestyle choice to live off the rest of us with their sprogs who will do exactly the same, claiming depression benefit whilst working on the side, claiming cash for their asthmatic kids whilst smoking 40 a day in the same room as them (yes Lizzy) but we're getting off topic now.

There are way too many humans in the world already. How about spending a fraction of what the govt spends on asylum and benefits on preserving some endangered species instead.

Thumbs down

This country is FAR too overcrowded already.

If they are really seeking asylum from oppression, then why don't they go to the nearest safe country? Why come to Britain?
Would it not make more sense to move to a country with a similar culture? E.g. Iraqis try Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran etc.

No, it is simply about them finding a better life for themselves, and who can blame them?

lol, hope they dont ask for a verbal confirmation of name, the noise would be horrific.

The biggest issue and the hardest to police is definately who is seeking genuine asylum and who is here for economic benefit.
Its an impossible task to get right 100% of the time.

my original point came down to the real reason why the people of Lee are protesting, to preserve their property prices, they used a frenzy of fear and propaganda and ultimately it made them look very silly indeed (see justification from residents in original post), they eventually resorted to blatent racism (20ft banners on the roadside every 100yds) and then set about justifying that. All under the thin veil of anti-asylum.
If you saw the show, and Im sure some did, others didnt, then you will appreciate the truth that outed at the end when they succeeeded, the leader was stuck for words when posed some rather poinient questions and started to look rather embarressed when he realised what the agenda for the show was.

clearly almost everyone has opinions either for or against matter.

Yes, I 100% agree there are good causes closer to home (see mencap rally 29th May 2004 as a single example) and as a christian ALL good causes deserve help if possible.
I am not, nor would I genuinely question anybodies charitable nature, I was using the lowest form of wit unfortunately, sarcasm, and everybody knows it doesnt work in written form.

I just wanted to highlight a situation that happened on my doorstep and I found very distastefull to say the least, especially as some of our own family members were towards the forefront of the campaign.
say what you like, I, like the people of Lee was making a stand, funny how they are now considered pioneers of national pride and I am a God squad do-gooder.

'I am 100% behind the asylum centre in Lee, which is about 3 miles from my front door.

The centre was going to be for migrants who HAD been granted asylum and would want integrating into the community, thereby positively contributing to both local community and economy.
genuine asylum seekers want to work and stand up for themselves in the large part.'

what a load of absolute drivel

speak to the real ppl you fool on the streets

and that doesnt mean listening to Dracoro and his bible bashing nonsense either

case dismissed...NEXT!!!!!!

That's it isn't it, you can spot them a mile off and usually a tan colour jacket too.

Wow, you lot are harsh on Kosovans!

If the situation was reversed and the UK had finished having a civil war just half a decade ago, Kosovans would be welcoming Brits into their country with open arms (and open chequebooks). They would ensure that the incoming Brits, fleeing for their very lives from a war that ended only years ago, would get better treatment than the needy native Kosovans.

That can hardly be applied to me chap. With a response like mine and you can't read into it then I guess the humour by-pass lies firmly with yourself.

I get your 'gag' Gareth! I think your scenario is even less probable than ordinary decent GB public bying this 'they will enrich us' myth so 'keep 'em coming'. We do it for THEM not for US... I wonder which planet sometimes...

Just for you Gareth123, that was a joke. In other words an addition to your post and not in anyway serious.

So you see, your comment actually doesn't work but I guess you can see that now.

Broadband wouldn't stop me going to Kosovo, super unleaded might though.

I thought Erupoean Law said something like the asylum seeker had to seek asylum in the nearest "safe" country... So if we look at our neighbouring countries we have errr
France, Eire, bits of Scandanavia, Iceland (at a push) errr Guernsey... Exactly so how do these "genuiune" asylum seekers get to Britain?
If say a Kosovan (keepin in line with previous posts) was soooo desperate to leave persecution behind, how did they get past Austria, Germany, Belgium and France without relasing they were safe???
Technically there should be no such thing as a genuine assylum seeker seeking assylum in the UK unless there is a civil war in the Faroe Islands that I dont know about????

Don't forget the South Atlantic, Falklands are still owned by the UK, so in theory we could get boat people from all over South America.

I do think that the EU members should try to sort this b*ll*cking mess out. In some ways if we'd been stronger in the Balkans, then I reckon we'd have less sh*t to worry about at home now.

Next problem will be an influx of "legal" economic migrants from Eastern Europe.
