Thumbs up

Can't wait for this game!! First heard about it when the commentators on Eurosports' LG SRW were raving about it when the publishers showcased it at the first round of this years GT champ. From the comments and quotes from the drivers that tried it that weekend it sounded pretty special.
In terms of wheels I've got a Thrustmaster Ferrari F1 FFB. A little pricey but its smooth, quiet and powerful with awesome detailing and several programmable buttons, alloy pedals and shifters. Styling is based on Schumey's 2001 wheel. Way cool.

I too can't get me head around these hot-lappers. Thought I was doing well with 2:18's/2:19's til I downloaded some replays. What blew me away was when I let the AI do the first stint and on the 3rd lap it did a 2:14.1!! I took onboard it's lines and brake points etc. and can get to the last split now in about 0.7-0.9 secs away from that time, but then I lose a full 4-5 secs over the last section thru the bus-stop and hairpin!!!

Roll-on release day. I for one have a fist full of notes ready

Richard, where did you order yours from?
I'm still waiting for mine, was told they expected stock in 3-4 days...3 days ago JYE has the same wheel so I'm sure he'll know how to split them!

Found it, under one of the controller menus. I got mine for Logitech direct.

Demo is very good, but I'm having trouble 'feeling' the car in the same way as I used to with GPL. Equally, the settings mentioned above, I find, drags the wheel away from centre too easily (like it was running huge toe-out...maybe it is, need to check setup options ).

I also think sound is better in GPL (with all the add-ons).

Cool, thanks - I'll give it a try. I played a bit more last night, and I could do with knowing what's happening with the tyres, haven't got lower than 2.33 so far

Gary, saw them in PC World (cheaper than on Amazon I think?) almost got one but then thought that I'd always be wondering if I should have gone for the better one cause after all I only want to buy one of them.

http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/

thinking of getting this, allows you to "look" around in car with movement of head, good for seeing apexes etc

beemerboy, you really need some good setups for LFS if you want to get anywhere

Try the LFS forum at racesimcentral, they have some nice setups for most of the cars.

Trackir, always fancied that for flightsims, good bit of kit but a bit pricey though

*bump*
Managed a 2:18.2 with the Lister. I usually load up about 4 laps of fuel and take my time getting used to the car and building up speed (read the previous sentance as 'I usually spin on the 1st 2 laps trying too hard ) That's not taking the **** with the kerbs etc. The main problem(s) I have are teh fast left hander before the bus stop, there's a nasty little bump at the apex which can send the car on to the slippy stuff on the exit of the corner. The other problem area is the bus stop itself, after the entry, getting the power down is really really difficult! the amount of laps I've messed up spinning the car at this point is unbelievable!
Absolutely cracking game though!

Thumbs up Goodbye Anologue Gamepad..........

..............Hello MOMO Racing FFB Wheel.

I've tried it on the Micra cup and shaved 3 seconds off my qualifying time with the pad,
Still a little tricky for me with the f1 cars (Especially Retro) for some reason.

I'm going to try it with the GTR Demo, then Probably go on LFS after a few months off. Who knows, if the SN server is put back up I might be able to do a full lap without spining off now I have a wheel.

It's a fantastic wheel!
Tried Colin McRae Rally 4... absolutely sh1te FFB, in fact it was only vibration. Well done Codies! pffft.
Once you've played the GTR demo everything else seems very muted and arcadey!
Although I have yet to try LFS with it.

N1 LEUEVEN, the wheel works great with LFS. Wait till you try GTR, the bump on the left hander just before the Bus Stop, amazing

I fecking hate that bump! ruined many a lap that has!!
Got down to 2:15:something then checked and I had braking assistance on (only though to check when watching a replay and saw the brake lights come on mid corner!). Now after many more laps with no assists I'm lapping consistantly around 2:19: to 2:20:

When I first went over the right hand curb at the bus stop with the wheel yesterday I ended up putting the whole car straight across it , but luckily kept it going straight . The thing is, is that it handled and felt real..... just like a real curb would.

Feckin Amazin.

I still need a lot of practice tho', mainly for the track.....i.e. breaking points and entering speed.

Can't wait to try LFS, but I need to re-install it tho.
Does anyone remember what to do if you bought the game but have formatted the HDD since, because there was a key code or something?

I'm not using assistance, but even with the accelerator pedal I'm still losing the back end in 1st and 2nd gear. .

'2:19/2:20'. I'm not even at the bus stop by that time.

You know what they say......"slow n' steady wins the race"

Default Works on PS2 aswell

Meant to say that it works on the PS2 with Toca Race Driver 1 , but not with GT A-spec or GT Concept .

Hope it works on GT4.

the fast left hander, i tend to run wide on, as there is plenty of room, or just back off the gas a bit, as for the bus-stop, what gear are you entering at? i tend to use 3rd gear, just clipping the apexes, and then hammering all the way down to 5th, then 2nd for the hairpin, which i pretty much coast round and then squirt the gas again just before straightening fully. - dont know if these are optimal ideas, but they work ok for me. - each to their own i guess. (we'll find out on network paly soon enough )

Cheers

I've been going into it in 2nd, then as you say once 3rd is in it's pretty much foot to the floor and straightlining it as much as possible down to that horrid hairpin. Had a few(loads) more laps experience now cause I was suffering with spinning the car in 1st and 2nd like Leuven. Just had to learn to be a little bit more gentle on the accelerator. Also found short shifting helped reduce the likelyhood of loosing it.
I'm absolutely gagging at the bit for the full version of this game!!

forgot to say, Leuven... try doing a fairly long stint on medium tyres and focus on being consistant and not going off. You'll pick up speed and notice where you can gain a bit of time. Then go out with low fuel and soft tyres, you'll get a lap time you didn't think was possible

Neanderthal,

Thats what I did with LFS the other day in the MRT5, smooth and steady so It should work with any driving sim.

Although i'ts probably not helping by not concentrating/focusing on one game at a time.

Can anyone tell me what difference there is between the LOGITECH FORMULA GP FORCE FEEDBACK & the LOGITECH MOMO RACING FORCE FEEDBACK steering wheels. Is it just the sequential shifter and the wheel obviously? there's about £30-40 difference and i'd like to know if it's worth the extra ££'s

I can't take using mouse/keyboard anymore on LFS & GTR

Also will either be compatible with PS2 for when GT4 comes out?

<Takes off hat>

Jye,

I re-installed GTR 2002 the other day and after <30 laps of the GTR Demo over the last month or so then going back to GTR 2002 I couldn't beleive that I thought it was better looking than GTR.

I must have had them set up different, plus it is more noticable when going back to an older looking sim than when a new one comes along and the graphics are better.

<Eats Hat>

PS I have done a 2:26 but know that I have loads of room for improvement,
I'll have a practice today after I've cleaned my airfilter.
