.The "," after me is acceptable as it intones a pause in the way it would be spoken. It is optional but not wrong.
Dash or hyphen after "things": acceptable as it links together two sentences or phrases that are also linked in the thought process behind them, or in this case the first item in a list. A colon would also have been fine; a full stop would be okay but not ideal as it loses the implied link.
"firstly" should definitely NOT have a capital letter after a hyphen, only after a full stop.
";" after "schools" is similarly fine because the two sentences are indeed linked, a fact that I did not wish to lose.

Completely wrong! A capital letter is only used after a full stop or other fully terminating punctuation mark. A semicolon does not constitute this!I was using quotation marks around "accepted" as I was indeed implying irony. Clearly my thoughts indicate that I do not find it acceptable.
Regarding "OK/ok/Ok/okay" and so on - this is only really defined by popularly accepted usage as it has no real etymological background.
"few" can mean two or more: refer to www.dictionary.com for this definition: "Being more than one but indefinitely small in number".

It's people who don't take any pride in what they do and work that are ruining this country. The WGAF attitude is what leads to mess on the streets, dumped cars on main roads, etc. Need I continue?

Re-Bitten Hero - we will have to agree to disagree - I'll give you the quotation marks round accepted as you say irony was your intention, but I would suggest you look carefully at the formal use of -, -- and ;

now replace OK, okay and ok by any peice of text speak you like. It is still a valid argument, so which side are you on anyway

1. To indicate missing words, normally from a quotation.
2. To end a sentence in an intriguing way.
I was using the second method, extended, to trail off my first sentence with a pause and some intrigue - and then pick it up again on the next line (agreed, not strictly correct use of the ellipsis, but generally accepted).
Taking what you have said concerning "... something unsaid." , I think you'll fiind that my first sentence/line doesn't say much (hence the ellipsis) and needs to be explained. Why the heck would I agree with Scoobynutta555? Oh yes, the rest of the post is the previously unsaid part.
So, more than justified use of the ellipsis in the first part - slightly dubious, but still borderline acceptable, in the second.

This is getting silly. We're not trying to get perfect English on this site. Arguing seriously with each other and getting het up about the placement of colons et al is a waste of everyone's time, because even the experts don't always agree. What we are on about is textspeak; streaming, unpunctuated posts. If someone drives on the roads without any skill whatever we quite rightly get annoyed (and don't say 'it's different because that is a life-threatening situation'). The sense of irritation we feel is the same for any activity in everyday life that requires a reasonable level of attainment and precision. When it is done incorrectly we get annoyed.
