Cossie engined 6r4 here, it's front engined though...

In Scotland we're lucky to have several 6r4's running in the Scottish rally championship, amazing sounding cars and still competitive after all these years...

Saw one a few years ago at one of the local single venues and he had a V8 stuffed in it. Sounded fit

Having owned a brand new, no miles 6R4 I can vouch for their superb sound.

they know how to build proper rally cars for the road back then, the 6r4 is the only metro that people respect, and what a beast

Unless there are several (which there probably are), the chap across the road from me has it - well, that's what his rally car is anyway - in blue and white. he also has a scoob type ra for his non rally weekend toy

Nah the fastest 0-60 for a road car is 2.96 seconds in a Tiger? dual huyabusa bike engined kit car, AWD, 400bhp, done by Tiff Needel. It was on 5th gear last year.

you have to admit the 6r4 looks prehistoric, i mean something like an integrale you could live with, old but still looks good, mk2 escort even, the quattro anything but the 6r4....scarey!

Horses for courses, but the 6R4 is faster than the EVO to 60, plus the sound it makes is unbelievable.

I say EVO, cause I've driven one. A Scoob could be faster!

Shane's quoted RS200 is up for about 70 000 euros (45 UK grand). Yet it's a 250bhp model, which according to Brun does 0-60 in 6 secs. Rip-off IMHO. Someone's trading on the reputation.

RS200 is so easily tuned though (as is the 6R4) to 400bhp. Current EVO's and Scoobs are but at a cost. Yes the RS200 trades on reputation, but what a reputation?

Plus the 6R4 motor doesn't rely on a Turbo so its power is instantaneous!

Quick thought. Insurance being hideous on a scoob and evo. What the hell would it cost to insure a road going group B rally car?

Likelihood of it being nicked - almost zero.

Cost to repair that non-standard bodywork - ouch!

(Mind, it's fibreglass, so out with the Isopon kit!)

Jerry, I never saw the engine spec of the 6R4 that was offered for 25k a few weeks ago, but I'd say it was a bit better value than double the price for something not much faster than a Boxster 2.7! You could get a 400bhp skyline for that money!

6R4 insurance (limited mileage) £300pa
EVO VIII FQ300 - £850

6R4 standard clubman is aluminium, metal, fibreglass on a spaceframe chassis (now has some Carbon in it). The fibreglass is the add on bits. Inside its standard MG Metro (includes carpets and ciggarette lighter).

Colin McRaes is mostly Carbon and cost in excess of £100k to build.

The car accelerates very quickly (top end is rev limited to 9500). Mine as its a standard clubman engine is 300 bhp (shortly to be fitted with a International FI kit and then should make 350bhp). Colin McRaes revs to nearly 12k.

However the cost of a 2.5 litre revver is £40k (and its not a shortened Buick V8). Same engine is found in XJ220 with Turbos and GrpC cars of the eighties.

It's the noise that's addictive.
