with a big turbo, you may not get full boost until circar 5000rpm, and if we use 5252rpm as a base, if you wanted 700ftlbs, you'd also need 700bhp at the same point.

The higher up the RPM, the harder it will be to make the torque. 700ftlbs @ 6000rpm, would = 800bhp !!!
I am only mentioning the limiter to keep some sort of driveability. if going bigger and peaking later he will be getting too close to the limiter IMO for a balanced motor.

moses,

I think you need to find where in the rpm the peaks are at this point to work from.

if you are not scared to run the boost you could run similar to the rally cars , as high as possible in the mid and drop like a brick at the top.

and rocket it has happened u heard of mad sunny, he is my mate he had a problem like that and mark changed the housing and it sorted it out and also the surges and he made an extra 70 to 80 bhp by just changing the housing on his fiesta turbo he now has 475 bhp

and john im a dealer for wizard of nos so if u want a kit gimme me a shout

cheers

and rocket my turbo didnt max out at 1.7 and neither did my engine my housing did like i said their was a massive restriction

give u an example sam had a problem coz of the standard inlet manifold he was putting out same power at 1.8 bar as 1.6 why coz of his standard throttle body and inlet manifold

has happened to a few

car made 610 bhp at 1.7 bar and also the same at 2 bar with 500 ft torque
u see the problem
moses, you need to know what boost at what revs and what power.

eg. 1.7bar at 7200rpm with 610bhp

if you know this then don't go over 1.7 at those revs but map the mid range higher to give the torque, try 3bar dropping to 1.7 at your peak power revs.

lol @ andy thanks mate and i agree dave gammon told me to fit a gt42 and i will be in the 8's but i rather have my car in one piece and not break it doing a 8 sec quarter mile i heard the skylines that do that , after a run or 2 usually break something expensive, no mate not me 9's will be fine

Moses, What does Dave Gammon know about drag racing He spent ALL DAY going round that handling course cos his car was too slow to go up the strip

I just can't see a std synchro H pattern (shotpeened) gearbox taking an EVO into the 9's somehow.

From Mark Re: 2.5 bar and 1.7 bar maxxing out.

Too many variables between cars that i don't know the answer to.
Are they the same cams?, same exhaust?, head porting?,valve sizes?,intercooler?

It's easy to say the engines are the same, but at that level, especially if you're aiming to be the number one in the UK and have a reputation to live up to, i wouldn't expect the engines to be identical. My opinion obviously.

I'd also expect the 2.5 to make similar *peak power* (not torque) to a 2.0 with the same turbo. A turbo is just an air compressor, pumps air to a given rated capacity, that's why some turbos are rated in horsepower terms, they can only flow so much air for so much power.

The backpressure issue, surely comes down to the increased exhaust gasses, the larger capacity engine gives and not down to the turbo?, so exhaust side amongst other things would need to be looked at to reduce BP?

We have both these guys using the "identical" turbo. One is able to run 2.5bar, and get 770bhp. The other max's out at 1.7bar/610bhp, due to excessive BP.

They both have the same turbo/exhaust side.

If one were using pump fuel, and the other race fuel, it would make sense, but they both used the same fuel to.

You can make certain allowances, but it would like JB maxing out a 20G at 350bhp, compared to Andy's 440bhp !

Mark.

alan mate did u speak to mark

i spoke to simon today he tested it bar by bar , at 1.5 it started alot of back pressure and by 1.6 it was very bad and at 2 bar 2.5 bar of back pressure and , cams didnt cause it, sam said maybe coz of the duration and originally i bought these for a different and smaller turbo its def the housing and rocket mine is over 1.5 bigger than his, if u done work on an evo u would know what simon means, his intercooler is different alan, so are his cams and headwork is slighty different but my engine is a killer of a beast as i found out today, **** its too powerful for the gt3240 glory be to God alone for everything

lol @ andy f yeah i agree dave didnt go on the dragstrip hee hee , g force evo in japan done it with a syncro box mate, but i wont, im not a racer im a baby compared to u guys but God willing would get 10. something i think till i get my dogbox

just pray i dont damage the car again pls

No mate, only what's been written on this thread.

Did Simon give you any reasons for the back pressure seen?

For a 2.5 compared to a 2l the turbo has to flow an extra 25% more air at any given boost, also with 25% more exhaust gas to back it up i can see where he's coming from. Although this is some pretty extreme figures i'll admit.

Hi Moses : I can`t get you a GT40 but I can get you a big turbo.
As you probably know the Scots Dragoon Guards are just going back to Iraq but they are leaving their armour behind. Sounds like a total nonsence to me but that`s Tony Blair and Geoff Hoon for you. Anyhow that could work to your advantage `cos they won`t miss an odd spare and for your application you don`t even need to think about Nitrous.

of course i used to use it 7 days a week and when i got it fixed only at nights or day offs, cost too much to run it and i have a problem saying "no" to people when they ask for a shot and that was part of the reason i never took it out during the day, i just cant say no, but now i will have too, im the one who had fixed it when my mate crashed it and also when the engine blew, my mate hit the red line a good few times

so no more
