If you can drive you will enjoy the M3 but if however you cant very well (like me) you will scare yourself stupid (like I did in my M3) and wish you had bought a forgiving 4wd like the Scoob! The trick I found with the M3 is if you think youve gone in to the corner a bit quick....keep the faith, keep the faith, keep the faith....keep feeding it in dont lift off for a second, other wise you will be in the ditch before you know it! The scoob as we all know lift off mid apex even brake... you will tell the tale afterwards!

I thought the DCCD had a -A as in automatic mode? I believe DCCD is on the WR1?

I don't see why an Impreza should understeer everywhere. Mine is neutral-power oversteer, and that is just with a change to the front diff and minor suspension changes to a 2000 MY car.

Passing cars on track at most of our driving skill levels has little to do with the ability of the car I would suggest and far more to do with the driver.

I am sure that I will enjoy driving it, after all I have enjoyed my MY03 WRX over the last 14 months, it is nice to get opinions on other cars however.

If possible I would have one of each, as people say 2 completely different cars, the Impreza is fine for blasting along country lanes but put it on a motorway for 6-7 hours and it is a tiring car to drive, I actually choose to drive my wifes Astra Turbo Coupe on motorway journeys put the cruise on sit back and enjoy, plenty of torque to keep things going yet also comfotable and a lot quieter than the scoob.

If I wanted an outright mororway cruiser I would go for a BMW 530d, bucket fulls of pulling power and very well built and reffined, also 40+ to the gallon.

I also have to say that I am amazed at the amount of replies to this thread that relate back to ****'s and winning the war, for christ sake lads, that finished in 1945, lets live for today and the future, not the past.

Anyway the decision is made, WR1 it will be.

Personally I can't see what the problem is here.

If you stay in Britain you will NEVER (except on a track) drive either or any car for that matter to it's max.

The wet and twisties argument is also over used and flawed because you shouldn't and probably wouldn't anyway no matter how much boasting you do actually drive car to it's limit in these conditions. If your scooby manages to lose an M3 or any other car for that matter then either you are driving to fast or the car you just left behind has more sense, less to prove and a better grasp of self preservation than you.

and if indeed you do intend to drive to Germany to test your WR1 against an M3 there will probably be not much in it anyway. Also have any of you actually driven a car flat out on a motorway, I have and it takes so much concentration that is is no longer fun.

so the bottom line is how much money you are prepared to spend on a car which you will never use to it's max potential.

normal day to day use you will not notice any difference between the 2 cars unless you are a Rep and spend all day driving.

Sorry - couldn't resist!

Back on thread - I am going to buy a Black Sti8 with PPP and suspension / wheel upgrades later on this year - so this thread has helped me focus on what I want next!

German are you, or married to one?
poor thing, our sympathies goes out to you.

There's one thing they do win hands down at and that is.
"when ever on holiday they manage to **** everyone else off that's in the areas.
They win hands down for the first towel down, how childish!!

It's not everyday we win at anything, so the British like to make it last as long as possible. Thanks Churchill and the boy's!!
Not to forget the 66 cup and the 2004 cup, I will go to my grave knowing and remembering these great victories. We all should!!!!
think about it, we might be all dating aggressive, hair arm pitted, smelly and aggressive, unwilling to compromise and listen to anything other than another German has to say.

Was it not the VW bug Hitler developed.......... enough said about that Muppet car.

Go the WR1...................... The cup goes to Japan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cheers and keep it coming, you've won the grin factor for the best, most fun factor car to drive.

Look you lot seem to live in a dream world.
I had an M3 and drove it in a spirited fashion for 8 monthe or so.
It had a decent spec but was costing me £721 a month!!!!!
I never really got the rawness from it that I guess I was lacking.
It is a brilliant real world rear wheel drive supercar but I have more fun in a car at the moment that is costing me over half that a month.
I too hanker after a Subaru with the adjustable diff as I have had a chance to drive one or two to their limit on a track.
I also did a track day in my M3 when it was wet and yes it was pretty quick surrounded by 4 wheel drive Subaru`s etc.
BUT.....
The latest M3 does understeer I have to tell you but can easilly be dialled out with a bit of throttle and be oversteer which I like.
Most of you on here have never driven either car or if you have I doubt to their limit as you can only really do that in a controlled track enviroment.
It all comes down to pounds at the end of the day.
i personally wont spend £30k on a Subaru agin as they simply are not worth that sort of money.
The m3 is actually very good value for money if you consider what you get and what it can do.
i gave a CSL a good raggin the other day and as far as traction go`s in weather conditions as thay are at this time of year my Subaru skip would have run rings round it.
My brother has his second M3 at the moment and he was leathering it of the other day and it has stone chips after 12000 miles and he was almost in tears£700 a month dont forget.
My car has stone chips and I couldn`t give a ****!!!
I suggest everyone has a good drive in both the forementioned cars before thay even start to write an essay on which is best.
WR1 I`m sure will be a great car for a used price of say £25k.
Dont also forget that the used m3 market is a little bit of a mess at the moment and thay too are loosing money.......a lot of money again I speak from experience on this matter as my mate owns a dealership!!!!
Once you have driven a CSL hard you wouldnt want a normal M3 anyway.
It makes the best noise that I have ever heard bar my mates Noble.
But dont tell me that a CSL is worth £58-60K cos it aint!!!
The car I drove the other day was bought new for £60 and sold back to the dealer after6 months for £46.
There you go.
I had one of the first E46 as did the badling felchin fat Andy O`Hara we were lucky when we sold them and didnt loose much but the demand for that car and the supply has changed and that always effects its residual.
Nuff said as I`m bored now.
Mike just about summed it up really....no-one other than him even knows how good the Wr1 is.
So how can you debate it???
It takes a fair bit of skill to drive an M3 in a brisk fashion and takes a lot less skill to drive a Subaru fast....it takes more skill to drive a Subaru beyond that lavel and I am fortunate enough to be the best driver in the World so its no problem for me!!!!

Arron,

I now know that all those days that you stood behind the barriers at the Kart tracks and used to say to your dad, "I wish I was as good as those guys in those karts" would come in handy. Remember I am your racing hero!!

Sounds like there's someone out there that likes talking out of his/hers ****.
I bet Arron can stuff coal up his **** and out pops a block of wood.

There's nothing like mouthing off just how good you are.
Remind me when you here about that tosser in the bar that goes on and on about the great sex with gorgeous women he has. Turns out he's a complete anchor and a virgin.

Sounds familiar............
Another """ look at me in my car ""

You might be able to fool the Muppets you hang with but not here, we all know you have a mark 2 escort 1.3L. Once you've progressed to something that goes quicker than my push bike and has had the years of training and experience. You might then be taken serious about things like.

Driving a car to it's limit's

I only had two engines and one chassis you were busy felching Mr Deavinson to obtain the best stuff.

This is my first time on scoobynet and the first post i read was the one 'WR1 or M3', i'd just like to put in my 2 pence.

I drive an M3 as an everyday car and i love it, i recently bought my first Subaru for track days and love that too.
Where does that put me in your opinions????????

I can't believe this forum is filled mostly with mindless tw@s that have nothing better to do than sit around slagging off people with nicer or more expensive cars.

Someone said 'people think scooby drivers are w@nkers and know bm drivers are', i think this whole post goes to show the complete opposite!

BMW forums aren't populated by idiots slagging off porsche or ferrari drivers. Their cars might be faster and more expensive but they aren't built for comparison, just like scoobys and m3s.
How many world rally champs. have BMW won?? - none
How many touring car champs. etc. have Subaru competed in let alone won?? - none

And i'll tell you why this is - they are nothing alike.
BMW is high quality, luxury and power.
Subaru is high power, quality and built for completely different reasons.

Somebody did make the good point that most of you ***** have only ever driven scoobys and will never have a chance to drive an M3 - how can you compare them?

I think you all need hobbies, aside of scoobys - it's obviously far beyond you.
Maybe you should take up tiddlewicks or something!!!

Anyway, i've said my piece and needless to say, i won't be returning.

McFurtis
- Big sweeping generalisation or what?

So if it's your first time on here - how come the 68 Posts?

BMW Forums are just like the cars very different - but you do get plenty of arrogant people with "issues"! I used to be a member of the BMW Car Club and the BMW M-Power Club and they have downsides too. Mostly people wanting to brag about what / how many other cars they had, which can also be rather tiresome .....

Part of this is aspirational - part realism - if you have have missed that there are a wide variety of views on here (it has a larger web population than any BMW site I have ever seen) then you have rather missed the point of a web forum.
Of course it is going to be biased - it's meant to be a Subaru forum - what do you expect?

Arron,,,,
you really should try the Tesco's trolley, that's so much better than the Sainsbury's version, 3 years of training and it's almost possible to go in a straight line. But keep in-mind that you will look so much cooler than a extension of your @ock,,,,, stay away from the M3 anchors.

Mcfrurtis...................... get a life and please don't come back.............. we know how to have fun here,,,,,,,,,,right guys ?????? we don't need loser's with to much to say about everything, thinking they know all when they know @uck all.

SO are we going to work out whats better.
TESCO's
or
SAINSBURY'S

My trolley is faster than yours!!!!!!!!!!!!
