Strange - I was just thinking the same thing when I was jumping about the pub earlier

As Duck Pond says, it was a scrappy match and England never got it together. Ireland played a much better game and well deserved to win. I really enjoyed the Irish try, they put everything into it and it was a real Southern Hemisphere type effort.

England have still done very well up to that match for some time now-that should not be forgotten.

The National Anthem is a relevant today as it's always been;

1. God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the Queen!

2. O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall;
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!

3. Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign;
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!
4. Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world over.

5. From every latent foe,
From the assassins blow,
God save the Queen!
O'er her thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our mother, prince, and friend,
God save the Queen!

6. Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the King!

ooooh that stirs the blood!!

Well, actually, No. Still it is better than the mindless chants of "swing-low, sweet chariot" which echo through twickenham, reminding us all of just how self-obsessed and ignorant the English rugby world is by singing a song originally written in Wales, and formerly sung at Wales internationals.
Let's be fair, who gives a flying fu** about the stupid queen or the royal family, they are about as relevant in modern society as a betamax video!!

And i bet nobody knows the whole song, just those few lines!!!

Well done to the Irish, and it was nice to FINALLY see England's luck run out! Agianst Wales and others over the last few years some very dubious decisions, and some unbelievable luck have turned games at vital moments. Let's just hope that it is a fair result, whatever way, in two weeks time. It is fair to lose to a better side, but not to a luckier one!!

Rant over!!

Just out of interest, what is the origin of Swing Low... ? As all I find on the subject is that someone called Harry Thacker Burleigh from USA wrote it, and it's to do with slavery, and that it's a lullaby.

England have had their fair share of poor decisions over the years too. It's just hard to swallow (for some bitter people) that they have become the better side recently, and set the standards for the other Northern Hemisphere sides to reach, and hopefully surpass, taking rugby up here to a level above the Aussies and co.

Apparently it was originally written as a slave spiritual in the nineteenth century . . .

Personally I think Fletchers version of "Scotland the Brave" in Porridge was best

Come where the lights are flashing
Come where the toes are tapping
Come where the Jocks are strapping.........

It happened thats life.
Perhaps we've peeked after the slaughtering the boys in green at landsdowne last year and of course winning the ultimate rugby prize the world cup.

I personally see winning the world cup lot more important than the 6 nations and perhaps clive and the boys see it that way also?
Anyway these digs from the celts are meaningless cos you've never been up there with the big boys and won the ultimate prize and if that ever happens?? for your lot of 'lucky on the day and hopefully england have a bad day' rugby nations,i will eat copious amounts of humble pie........ok
