EVo 6 or P1
No contest from an engineering point of view. We build about 3 / 4 Subaru engines every week including P1 and STi5 [ same engine ]
But we build about 5 EVo engines a year..........
EVo's are not dearer to run or service or rebuild. I love Subaru's to death because of their charisma and noise - but the EVo is a better car.
In my opinion.

LOL!
O.K., service interval is 4.5k, lets get that bit straight for starters! Its the Evo 8's that have had some problems with bottom ends, and only Evo 8's.
Most Evo owners run 1.6bar on the standard internals, some even higher me included, a.t..m the car is at 1.9bar (held), all on standard internals i may add.
Choice is yours as to which car you buy, i personally would test drive them both, then decide, whats right for someone else, may not necessarily be for you

I've just bought the P1 with balance of standard warranty plus 12 months extra cover plus a service so very happy.

The p1 has 1500 miles on the clock so is brand new, the evo 12500. Both are fantastic cars, the evo is slightly more expensive to run but the local dealerships aren,t a patch on tileys in bristol for the subaru. But it just seems to depend on how you feel each day.
the evo has already had a new clutch and the discs are warping well. My old p1 had nothing go wrong with it in 2 years and the only reason i swopped was mileage at 60,000 and I lved the look of the evo, which is totally black inc tints. Performance - the new p1 seems a bit quicker than the evo, but it may be that the evo is deceptive in ti delivery. The evo is a much harder ride, which I love, but you sit lower in the p1. The sound ogf the p1 is fantastic, the handling of the evo is unbelievable.
I just cannot tell the two apart but i have about 3 months to decide until the divorce courts or \i end up sleeping in one of them.
