I'm a technical architect (IT) and work for the financial services arm of a large corporate. I think it's a great job too.

i love my job (most of the time anyway)

I'm in the armed forces, SSgt, Royal Engineers.

I get paid very well (£37k+) for doing very little, i get free holidays now and again (off to kenya for 6 weeks in march), get bonus's left right and centre, I'm guaranteed a pay rise at least twice a year. when in peace time (ie in bks) i probably work no more than 15 hrs a week, i get at least 30 days paid leave (i get paid 24/7 365 days a year), free gym, cheep beer, i do most outdoor activities for free (parachuting, snowboarding etc), i'm an army diver (get paid for that too)..........list goes on & on

Only downside is now and again i go to war and i have to wear green al;l the time

like CHRIS_D,

i get paid the same (tad over £37K, hopefully more in April ), but am in IT, working for a small company. enjoy the job (its relatively easy), and am not overworked - pays for Scooby and mods (the single most detrimental drain on my finances) which is a huge plus.

I will love my job when I get one

TBH quite enjoying NOT working atm More time @ home, more time with family etc. Money is tight but not a problem, still running PTMW!

I really enjoy doing things like the school run and the supermarket shopping, all without time pressure. We live in a lovely place & I'm spending time doing up the garden and planning things for the spring.

Having a great deal of fun doing various techy things with some friends, that might turn into something useful.

I guess when I do get a job (which is looking like certain in the next 10 days/2 weeks) I won't be able to do all these things, the pressures will come back as will my psoriasis and I'll see less of my family and home I am going to try and ensure that I do 2 days a week from home though.

I'll let people know what its like when I start a job

I'm an IT manager for a small company in South Bucks, the pay is preety good and have a WRX03PPP as my company car!
(cant beleive i suckered them into adding the ppp!)

as for the job itself, there are good days and bad days but at least i dont wake up in the morning with that sick feeling cause i hate my job.

to me thats the worst feeling in the world, if ever you feel like that, just quit, right there and then, cause its not worth the hassle and life is too short.

i think most people feel like that at some point, and a lot feel like that all the time.

your advice, while in theory is sound, is not realistic however, as most people do have bills to pay and need some kind of job.

Milo,

I appreciate its easier said than done, of course we all get a bit sick and tired of our jobs from time to time.

but when everyday causes a stressed filled ball of nauseating bile inside you and you hate your job so bad that it starts to manifest itself physically like that then, there comes a point where you have to move on and try something else for sake of your own mental and physical health if nothing else!

life is hard enough without having to spend 8+ hours feeling like absolute **** and hating yourself for it.

most people hang on too long and when they do finally go they wander why they didn't do it sooner.

I spent a good many years in the RAF and I loved the job I was doing so much that it was often a disappointment not to go to work. Nothing like being paid to be a hooligan and to keep practising how to do it.

I would not have missed it for anything.

oh, i couldnt agree more.

the issue is, if you have a family to support, bills to pay etc, then you simply CANNOT just quit your job on the spot.

find another job first and THEN quit your job... THATS the realistic way to do it. not just quitting on the spot.

if you can afford to just quit - then great. but most people cant... sadly.

I work for one of the countrys largest print companies. The managers don't know the words "morale", "motivation", "encouragement" or "incentive". The modern philosophy of a happy, relaxed work force being much more productive and creative is completely alien to them. But I turn up at 6pm friday just as them w4nk3rs go home, and disappear at 6.30am monday as they're rubbing their eyes at the start of another week It's the best paid job, with the least hours, most freetime and best pension I've ever had.

Given the choice, I'd rather sell fruit on a Carribean beach, but this'll do for now.

Love my work, and working for myself. Best thing I ever did was to leave the corporate office culture behind and go it alone - fantastic, though not without its pitfalls.

Well I have 2 jobs...........................................

Managment Accountant during the day....

Firefighter by night/weekends

The dull office pays the mortgage, and the firefighting pays for play!!!!! Love both jobs, apart from when I've been out all night firefighting, then have to go to the office.

Poor Guy

If you believe that you have no brain power then that is how it will be. however, if you take a more positive attitude and believe that you can do it, then you will be able to!

I am a full time GP, and on most days enjoy my work.

On top of this I work voluntarily for an ambulance service, responding to road accidents and the like, when a doc is needed in addition to paramedics. I usually go to 3 or 4 jobs a week. Although I don't get paid for this part of my work, it gives the most job satisfaction.

(and has the added bonus of letting me drive quickly in my impreza)

You must know the Trauma Surgeon, Keith Porter then? He is the dogs danglies. I have seen him turn up to really bad RTA's & perform an amputation on scene.

I work very closely with Keith, am one of the same team of docs. You can tell us apart as he turns up in a blue scooby (he's just sold the white one) and I turn up in a silver one.

Do all the RTA's you witness not make you drive more sedately though?? Not having a go in a "PC brigade" way, just wondering if it ever puts you off??

Around town, if I'm not responding to a job, I generally drive at the speed limit. If I'm on a country road where it's safe to do so and I'm out for a drive on the twisties, then I'll drive briskly. If I'm responding to a call from the ambulance service then I will be running with blue lights and sirens, and have done the appropriate training to be allowed to do this. Even on emergency calls we work on the assumption that I'm no use to the casualty if I crash and don't get to the scene, so although driving quickly I won't take any risks.
