My mate just got one - he's 23 and hasn't got full NCD, 1994 I think Import WRX heavily modified in excess of 300BHP and his insurance is just under £2000, and I'm pretty sure he didn't tell them about half the mods....
But he stuck with his current insurer (Tesco) and didn't phone around.....no way I would pay that for insurance

Ollie, I'm sure you would impress the birds with an Impreza at 22. My mate was 23 when he got his, which we all thought was pretty flash. He's living at home too so I don't think the cost hits him too hard. I, on the other hand, got mine when I'd just turned 25. With a mortgage and a fairly expensive house, I sometimes find myself going to work in the Mini to be a bit more economical and save petrol towards the end of the month!
I don't know how a UK Scoob compares, but I consistently get 19mpg from my WRX import and I DON'T drive it hard very often at all This is definitely the biggest factor in my running costs, apart from the £1400 insurance obviously. Oh yeah, and the recon engine after the original one lasted a fortnight, lol.
Servicing even at a main dealer isn't that bad compared to the MGF that I had before.
Nothing is as valuable as your happiness mate and there are very few cars like an Impreza that can make you laugh out loud as you stick your foot to the floor and it takes you by surprise yet again If you REALLY want one, you WILL afford it, whatever your situation. Go for it .... and enjoy

Don't do it unless you're 100% sure you can afford it. We all let our hearts lead our heads when it comes to things like this.
Also, make sure you drive lots before buying. The Impreza really diappointed me. Save for an S2000 - you'll NEVER be disappointed with one

At some point in your life everyone should own either a scooby or a TVR.
Same goes for the Scoob except some nice man called "Rasher" put all the best bit's on it before I bought it, so I didn't need too! And now I still smile from elbow to **** when I give it some right foot. (especially on a cold and frosty morning!!) So just do it mate you won't regret it.

Got my first one when I was 12. Parents are landed gentry and own vast private stretches of land in Wales, which I regulary drive about on. Tally ho. I'm now 17 and drive a Bentley, as I feel it's more me.

I've just turned 22 and have owned my 98' V5 Type R since I was 21, has cost me quiet a bit but worth every single penny!
Especially the look on people's faces when I get out, because I do look rather young!
Do it mate, you are only young once!

Forgot to add, my car is on a trade policy as that was the only way I could get insured on it at 21, for the pricely sum of £5100.
That covers my Scooby, my mate on his GTiR and us both F/C on any vehicle up to £26,000. So is £2550 each

was 24 when i bought mine with only 1 years NCB, the insurance was extortionate, but obviously i knew that beforehand. The running costs i have found to be nowhere near as bad as i expected as the local subaru dealer is fairly cheap for servicing and the only real other cost is fuel and mods
Fuel is simple to work out, take about 18MPG (erring on the worse side) and figure out how many miles you will do.
The things that can really catch you out is if you have to pay for a cambelt service or something like that but its not until 60k miles on a MY00 so unless its a fairly high miler you wont need to worry.
